3.0 out of 5 stars A Dentist Reviews This Product, August 18, 2005
This review is from: Anbesol Oral Anesthetic, Maximum Strength, Gel .25 oz (7.1 g) (Health and Beauty)
As a dentist, I often have patients with oral ulcerations and sore, particularly canker sores and cold sores. Many want to know if using Anbesol will help these sores. Here is the answer I give them:

1. This type of Anbesol is a 20% strength topical anesthetic (Benzocaine) and has no healing or curative properties. It is the strongest form of Benzocaine that can be purchased over the counter.

2. Anbesol only lasts perhaps 5 - 10 minutes and then it has to be reapplied.

3. In order to work to relieve pain, the lesion has to be dry when the Anbesol is applied. This can be very difficult and frustrating to achieve.

As long as you expect nothing more than temporary relief from Anbesol it is a product that works as advertized.
