Science and Horror, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Ancestor: A Novel [Hardcover]
Sigler's Ancestor had me from the first chapter - I love a blend of science and horror, and this guy knows how to create realistic scenes from unrealistic scenarios (or are they?). All the characters, had their own strengths, weaknesses, and in some cases pronounced paranoias - and that made them all the more interesting. I cared about Colding and Sara, and Jian and the subplots of the emotional entanglement, frictions and gut-level hate he created to add in a dash of psychological drama was very enjoyable.
I wont add in spoilers, but the scenes where the experiments 'go wrong', are magnificent in the extreme! This book reminded me of some of Greig Beck's works in its blending of horrifying concepts, military hardware, and downright terror.
5 Stars - Loved it. Now, to get his other books!
