5.0 out of 5 stars All the Funk Without the Filth
It's been a long dry spell since Amazone and this is worth the wait. The album is clearly a follow-up to Amazone, yet the style is refined a little more, so it is not simply Amazone II, the Sequel.

Each composition here is like a little window opening on a slice of life. The blending of the languages brings home, yet again, the universality of music. There...

I really like Zap MaMA but this is not my favorite album of her's.She can do super-human things with her voice but I wasnt hearing that on this one.Dont get me wrong;just about anything she puts out I'd love but I really prefer Am a Zone to this. She might've had fun with all the guests on this but it just did not move me.

There are differences between peoples, but this difference is something to share and enjoy, not to separate us into disparate spaces. Whatever your background, you can feel a part of the scenes presented.

The spoken words take me back to the beginning of what is now called rap, to true street corner poetry. Unlike most of today's rap, there are no words you don't want young kids to hear. Instead of degrading women and reducing them to objects to be abused, we are instead reminded that "She is someone's daughter" and to be revered as she is made of "Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water". No malice, no hatred, only love of the highest order. Pure poetry, not gutter rap.

The vocals are perfectly blended and the harmonies are tight. These women blend together a vocal synergy that must be heard to be experienced. The rhythms, capable of standing alone, reinforce the musical magic woven into the tapestry of their sound.

If you truly believe we are one people spread across a small planet, this album will speak to your soul. If you've never been exposed to music like this, you'll be amazed. If you're already a fan of Zap Mama, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melodious and funky, February 18, 2005

This is simply a fantastic album. From the melodious tunes of "Sweet Melody" and "Bandy Bandy" to the funky ones of "Vivre" and "Wadidusay", there's certainly something on this album to catch the hearts of R&B and hip-hop lovers alike.

This album was my first exposure to Zap Mama, and it made quite the first impression. I'll be eagerly watching for a U.S. tour.

I loves this album. It's got great vocals as always from Zap Mama, some nice melodies and cool ass beats. Nice tracks all the way through. I go through a lot of CDs from many genres (R&B, Hip Hop, world, Dub, rock, reggae, Drum & Bass, asian massive), usualy I keep a new album in my car for about a month, this one has been in my car for months and I have a feeling it will stay there for a while. My favorite album in the past year.

5.0 out of 5 stars GET ZAPPED NOW!!!, September 18, 2004
This review is from: Ancestry in Progress (Audio CD)
I have been a devoted Zap Mama fan for over six years now and I have to say this is the best zap yet. I don't know how they do it... Marie Daulne is a genius with all her layers of sound, artistic collaborations with Erykah Badu, Scratch and of course the Zap babies! This is THE album for a slow sexy and interesting evening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great "World" Music, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Ancestry in Progress (Audio CD)
After seeing Zap Mama at North Sea Jazz, I looked for this cd in many stores. It is a treasure for 2004, especially for those that enjoy "world" music. This definitely has an urban edge and the vocals are creative. You may find yourself listening to this cd often. My favorite: Bandy Bandy. Add it to your shopping cart!

Zap Mama just makes you wanna move and groove. This is my 3rd Zap Mama album, and I absolutely LOVE the collaborators on this set with Maria Daulne -- the track "Bandy Bandy" with Erykah Badu is a real winner with the hypnotic groove and Erykah's sneaky sensual voice. Picking progressive hip hop artists such as Common and Talib Kweli also speaks volumes about ZM's message and musical direction.
This is a must-have album for 2004!

5.0 out of 5 stars this beauty in progress, September 9, 2005

You know how you feel when you sitting on the beach in front of the sea, with the fresh clean breeze gently blowing through your hair. You know how it feels to have that piece of milk chocolate melt gently in your mouth as it mesmerizes all the taste buds on your tongue.
That is what this lady does to you ear drum. Her music is sweeter that honey. And who better to colab with than with Miss Badu herself.
This lady has got magic in her vocal cords and tranquility in her lyrics. My poor soul was starved of good and original sound and she fed my soul. That is the way it should be after all music is intended to be food for the soul

This is my first time listening to Zap Mama. I remember them being on Erika Badu's last CD and I was intrigued. I love love love this record. I'm a serious fan now and I can't wait untill the next one is out in January 05. If you can appreciate real musicianship and creativity, this CD is one to add to your collection and downloads.
