5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Baking Prep! And Made in the U.S.A.!
When I recently replaced a set of old, chipped mixing bowls, I wanted to go with American-made, durable, solid glass. I chose an inexpensive 3-piece Pyrex set but ended up very frustrated with those sloped sides and all of the associated splattering I got whenever I used my hand-held electric mixer. 3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, lasted more than a decade, but ugly
I still have this set after using it more than a decade, probably closer to two decades. I also have a comparable (non-Sculptured) Pyrex set. Both were made in the USA. There is a visible difference between how Anchor Hocking and Pyrex handle usage over time. My Anchor Hocking set is so scratched and cloudy one can barely see through the glass anymore; the bottoms are...

Christmas baking was the last straw. I ordered this Anchor Hocking set for 2 reasons - 1) It's made in the U.S.A., and 2) the sides are much steeper than in the Pyrex sets. I am thrilled with my purchase and am using these bowls for everything now. The Pyrex set is headed for the second-hand store!

*** Helpful Hint July 09 *** - This set doesn't come with the larger 4 qt. bowl, but you might be able to find it at Big Lots for a mere $5. (I did.) Also, I kept my smallest Pyrex bowl (with the sloped sides) because I sometimes set it over another pan of water to double-boil/melt chocolate for recipes. The sloped sides do give it the shallowness needed for double-boiling, but for EVERYTHING ELSE I use these Anchor Hocking mixing bowls. Also, the cracker jars made by Anchor Hocking are fabulous for pantry storage of just about everything - heavyweight glass and made in the U.S.A.!!!

In my opinion, these are some of the best mixing bowls out there. I prefer glass to plastic or steel because I like the visibility and the fact that you can put them in the microwave without worrying, and you can use these as bakeware as well. My favorite thing about them is that unlike other bowls, these are deep, rather than wide - which means there is less splattering on your counter when using a hand mixer. The mixer works just fine even in the smallest bowl. They are also fairly heavy, so they don't slide all around. I also own the 4 qt bowl which is my favorite for rising yeast dough, again because of the deepness of the bowl. I highly recommend these bowls, and the 4 qt (though it doesn't seem to be available on Amazon).

I still have this set after using it more than a decade, probably closer to two decades. I also have a comparable (non-Sculptured) Pyrex set. Both were made in the USA. There is a visible difference between how Anchor Hocking and Pyrex handle usage over time. My Anchor Hocking set is so scratched and cloudy one can barely see through the glass anymore; the bottoms are white from scuff marks. My Pyrex set is still clear. Both sets are still complete, none have broken. The Anchor Hocking bowls have straighter sides which are better for mixing. The Pyrex set has sloped sides which is better for stirring, and they have a lip for easier handling. If I were to buy another set of glass bowls again, I would choose the Pyrex Prepware Sculptured 6-Piece Serving Bowl Set, Clear with Blue Lids for prettier serving and better storage (hint: shop around for better price at world kitchen), and I would buy a good stainless steel set of bowls for serious mixing. But these bowls have served their purpose and I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of them.

Good quaity glass mixing bowls. These are just like Pyrex, but not as expensive. $10.99 for this set of 3 is a great price. Especially if you spend $25 and get the free shipping. They are heavy and solidly built.

I really like these bowls much better than the Pyrex bowls. The shape of the bowls work much better for me than Pyrex. Try them and see if you like them!

I have owned these for 2 years. Even with daily use, they still seem brand new. I have not used a hand mixer in any of them so none are scratched. Work great for microwave, storage, mixing and serving.

I think these bowls are much heavier than pyrex bowls--the heaviness doesn't bother me but may bother some people.

My glass mixer bowl broke and I needed to replace it. The product worked out as a nice replacement. I read the reviews on the bowls available on Amazon and this set of bowls had the right shape for mixing. They worked perfectly, the sides are upright enough so the mix stays in the bowl, and doesn't fly out when mixing at high speed.

These are great sturdy bowls with nice flat bottoms for extra stability. They are getting regular use here for recipes and in the microwave.
If you want some perfect basic bowls these are the ones. I like how they stack inside each other for easy storage also. I highly recommend these.
Anchor Hocking is such an iconic American brand. I can see why this company has been around for so long.
