I use these mugs to serve frosty drinks in my cafe. My customers love them. They've also held up well from the rigors of hand washing and cafe use. Will certainly buy them again as needed. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the mugs have a ridge down the middle of the handle that runs from the rim of the glass all the way to the rim on the other side. It really needs to be sanded down. Other than that, the mugs are great.

I really like these mugs. I'm a home brewer and specifically got these to keep in the freezer for when I want a cold brew. They've worked excellent for this purpose and have held up well. Being clinked around when hand washing or being shoved in the freezer hasn't been a problem and they make for a very sturdy and solid mug.

They all have blemishes here or there in the glass. Nothing structural or that would be a problem but just minor stuff. I mention it only for those looking for "perfect" mugs. I think they add character to the glasses though so don't mind them.

The only minor complaint is the seam from manufacturing is very pronounced. It runs through the handle, across the bottom then up the other side. The way most people hold a mug it won't be hitting their lips though so isn't a huge issue.

The mugs are fine. Heavy, nicely made and I don't care about a ridge in the handle. In fact, all my mugs have ridges I never noticed until I read reviews mentioning they're not ideal. However, by my Pyrex measuring cup, these hold just over 16 oz and that is filled to the brim. By that measure, they are not: "6 oversized beer mugs with generous 20-ounce capacity." But who needs to drink that much anyway? They are 6 very nice mugs, with more than adequate capacity, an a great "no-slip" ridge on the inside of the handle. I like them and would buy more if I need them.

The advantages of these mugs seem to be: keeping drinks cold longer due to thicker glass, less condensation dripping off the sides, heavier weight keeps them from tipping, the traditional beer look that other cups cannot provide, and that they are rated for use in the freezer. A thinner glass doesn't have the ability to retain temperature, nor would I trust it to hold up to cracking after repeated trips to the freezer.

This mug has a heavy weight and solid feel. The ridge along the handle is indeed there as others have pointed out, but it's not a sharp or pronounce edge like I've seen in other cheaply made glass and plastic cups. A non-issue for me. My main need for buying a mug is to keep my drink cool longer, and not have to dilute it with ice cubes to do it.

So I setup a test in my kitchen. This frozen mug against a plain 'ol, room-temp, 16oz tall glass cup. Each got 12oz of 43F water in 78F ambient temperature. The mug water dipped lower to 38F before returning to the starting temp 25 minutes later. The normal cup rose steadily to 54F by then. Within an hour the cup hit 62F, and the mug was 55F. Anything over 60F I wouldn't consider "cold".

Basically this mug, if frozen beforehand, will give you an extra 25-30 minutes worth of use before your drink is no worse off than it was before. Not bad. I'm sure a serious, double-walled mug would fair a bit better, but this is a nice upgrade. I'm pleased overall.

The build quality on these mugs is fantastic. The mug is thick and simply feels ready to be cracked into your friends mugs.

There was another review saying these only hold 16 ounces, not 20. Well..... even though these are made in the USA, they seem to be 20 *Imperial* ounces. An imperial ounce is 1/160th of a gallon, whereas it is 1/128th in the USA. This means that an Imperial ounce is 0.8x an American ounce. 0.8 X 20 = 16oz. Bam. Too bad they don't indicate that on the product, but these mugs do hold 16 US oz. (And comfortably I might add, not brimmed. I think this size is great anyway.).

On the mold seam mentioned in other reviews: purchasing this in 2013, it is possible that they have improved the seam because it is hardly noticeable. Other reviews made it sound like it protrudes a millimeter or two, but the seams on mine are pretty dang flush to the handle.

Which leads me to my last comment, the handle: the handles are nice and large and almost totally straight up-and-down. This makes delivering all 6 brimmed mugs to your friends easy, which is pretty cool.

I've ordered a number of different things from the Anchor Hocking company and I haven't been disappointed yet. They make great quality glassware for very affordable prices, and these beer mugs are of to the same quality as every other item I've purchased. I can honestly say I was shocked at how nice the mugs were when they arrived. They are large and heavy, very thick and look like something you would see at a restaurant or tavern. These make for outstanding root beer float mugs and beer mugs. I purchased a few sets to fill with candy and give out as prizes at a party. For the kids, I filled them with root beer gummies and mini bags of Jelly Belly Soda Pop Shoppe Jelly Beans. For the adults I filled each one with mini chocolate candy bars and fire Jolly Ranchers. I then put each of the mugs filled with candy inside a gift bag and included either a bottle of A&W Root Beer or a glass bottle of orange cream soda inside. Because these mugs are so nice, the gifts looked even more expensive than they were. They were a big hit and everyone loved them. The mugs are so nice we saved two for ourselves. They will be PERFECT for making root beer floats on hot summer days!
