The good, the bad, and the ugly (mostly good),

This review is from: Anchor Hocking Decorated 16-Ounce Mixing Glass - 12 Pack (Kitchen)
The good:
* Solid: these are heavyweight *bar* mixing glasses. You can use them in a Boston Shaker with ice and not worry they're going to shatter. * They survive the dishwasher (see "solid") * Accurate: markings every half ounce, from 1/2 to 13 oz. Checked a few against a measuring cup and they seemed right. * Great deal: a full dozen for just over a buck apiece, compared with some other "measuring glasses" here that are $10 or more *each*. (Note: apparently the price has doubled since I purchased a couple weeks ago. But still a relative bargain for a full dozen. Give the extras to friends!) The bad: * The cocktail recipes on the side are weak, or wrong, or worse. ("Margarita: 1.0 oz Tequila, 1/3 oz Triple Sec, 1/3 oz lemon juice." Umm...) Just get yourself a decent bartender's guide and ignore what you read on these glasses. * Measurements are only in ounces. That's fine for mixing drinks. For other stuff: 1oz = 2 tablespoons; 8oz = 1 cup = 1/2 pint. (Need metric? You'd probably be happier with a real kitchen measuring cup.) * One in the set had a bit of a bulge on the lip. Not enough to affect its use, but it looks a little off. The ugly: * They're, um, ugly. No getting around it. Weird star design stolen from a 70's game show set, plus useless recipes that make it harder to see the ounce markings. Not something you're going to want to hand to guests. (Unless you're having a 70's-themed weak cocktail party.) Other stuff to know: * Like virtually all bar mixing glasses, these are only "pint glasses" if you fill them to the very brim. Which gets messy. The markings top out at 13oz, and that's about as high as you'll want to go. * Union made (Flint Glass Workers Union) * Individually bubble wrapped and all well packed in a heavy carton * Each glass has a UPC sticker on the bottom (in case you want to buy a case and re-sell them for $10 or more each!) * No idea yet how long the markings will last. (FWIW, I've had them through the dishwasher a couple of times with no apparent fading.)
