My wife was constantly purchasing glassware from department stores and expensive specialty stores. What I discovered is we could purchase restaurant-quality glassware for much less than places like Crate and Barrel. Ultimately, glasses break or become cloudy from being run through the dishwasher and need to be replaced.

Personally, I don't like drinking from plastic 'glassware'. I like glass! I'm not so snooty that I need a hand-blown, lead crystal something or other to drink from. The heavy base and the Soho bubble design dresses up what would otherwise be plain, cheap glassware. These are high-quality glasses but hardly fine crystal. They are very nice, I think.

I searched and found a design my wife found pleasing and decided buying a case of glasses for the same price the department store charges for a set of 4 made great sense. I simply store the rest until we need them. Plus, we have extra for guests when they are required.

We like the Soho design from Anchor Hocking and use them every day. They're perfect for cookies and milk as well as cocktails. They're a perfect rocks glass! They have a solid feel. Each glass weighs almost a pound and they're tough. There are no fragile edges and I have no trouble bouncing them around in the sink or putting them in the dishwasher. Try that with your hand-blown, lead crystal do-dads. We have enough of that stuff on 'display' because it's too expensive to use.

They can be found for a little over two bucks each if you shop around some restaurant supply web sites. I bought them on Amazon for that price but it has gone up since. I enjoyed the free shipping that comes with my Amazon Prime membership. They are also covered by Anchor® Hocking's Sure Guard(tm) guarantee which provides refund or replacement if the rim chips. I wonder how that works...?
