5.0 out of 5 stars What a bargain!, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Anchor Hocking Montana 2-1/2-Gallon Jar, Brushed Metal Lid (Kitchen)
I got this jar because of its size and its wide mouth access. I use it to store dog food in to avoid plastics which I have found tend to make my dogs sick after their food has sat in a plastic container for several weeks until they've eaten it all. This is attractive and works great! Now I think I need some of these jars in smaller sizes to coordinate other things for storage in my kitchen too!

I hate having to refill my flour and sugar container after I bake cookies or make bread. I have also found that if you store confectioner's sugar in plastic, it seems to take on a "plastic" taste. I decided to try to find a larger storage container for the staples I use in greater quantities. I have now obtained 5 of these jars and I love them. The lid has a gasket and seals very well. The lid is also metal (not glass), which makes me not so scared of dropping it. The 2 1/2 gallon jar easily holds about 10 pounds of flour. The opening of the jar is wide enough to fit my hand and whatever size scoop I need. The jars are heavy, but I don't really move them much unless it is time to wash them.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love it!, September 17, 2009

I have a large family and so I buy in bulk! I have been looking for large containers like this for years. Most where plastic or if it was glass the lid would just sit on it. It's large size holds a lot more then I thought it would, almost 40 cups. Two of these almost hold a 50 pound bag of uncooked popcorn. I had bought a smaller one in a store but could not find any thing any larger until I searched amazon. They look like kitchen decor and it matches my stainless still appliances. My only complaint is the price but since the glass is made in the USA I don't mind. Not sure where the lid is made. I am happy enough with it I will be buying more in the future!

I've gotten a couple of these jars, and they are excellent. I'm trying to use more glass, and less plastic, these days, and they perform perfectly. The lid seals well enough, that I use it to store my whole wheat flour for months at a time. Great product!

Great quality, very attractive, will hold a ton of whatever you put in it, lid is very secure but can be carefully worked off with one hand if needed, very wide mouth makes for very easy scooping. I haven't used it on a regular basis but expect to be happy with it when I do. If not, I'll use it for a decoration since it would work just as well for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars holds a ton, well more like 5+ lbs, July 2, 2010

I bake alot, and therefore go through alot of flour. This canister is the best of both worlds, beautiful enough to sit on the counter and holds enough to be my only flour bin. Air tight seal seems to be adequate, but then again flour doesn't stick around long in my house. Lid is easy to clean, knob is attached to lid with a nut. If you want to see these in person before you buy to see just how great they are, they are available at target.

I bought this jar to make large batches of kombucha and it is perfect. I can easily get 16+ bottles out of a batch. I do the secondary bottling in recycled Synergy kombucha 16 ounce bottles. I recommend this jar, it is thick glass and made well. The lid does not have an airtight seal but that is not necessary for my use.

I bought this canister to keep my cat food in and it's been great. The lid is air tight and also cat proof because he can't get in to his food anymore! Very stylish, very durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy-to-open lid, October 25, 2011

On some jars, it takes a lot of force to remove the lid because of the vacuum you're pulling against. However, this lid comes off easily. I think that's because there are two small holes along the seal of the lid which let air in. However that means that this jar isn't 100% air-tight, if that's what you're looking for.

This is an excellent food storage jar. The lid fits great, the glass is sturdy but not so heavy that I can't lift easily. Wide mouth opening makes it easy to use for flour, sugar, oats, etc. I have three now and they work so well I'm contemplating a 4th. Can't miss with this one. Love that it is made in the USA also.
