Wondering How to Get to Heaven?,
By
This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
If so, this book captures the essence of the Bible in a simple, yet straightforward manner. This book is perfect for anyone who is trying to figure out how to find that elusive peace and forgiveness that we all seem to be searching for. In a compelling manner, the author distills the message of Scripture into an easy-to-read format so that we can know our standing before God -- and clearly explains how we can be saved from our sins and on the road to heaven.

Fresh Start Motivator,
By Dr. Bob Neill (Covina, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
An Anchor for the Soul is a primer in helping seekers and new believers capture the essence of new life in Jesus Christ. We use it at our church as part of a Fresh Start Packet for new believers and seekers. It is scripturally based and presents a great help for those seeking to grow in Jesus Christ. It also gives hope to those who are looking for an anchor to base their life upon in a world desperately looking for answers to the key questions of life. It is easy reading, but compelling. I highly recommend this little book as a means of telling the Good News that can only be found in Jesus Christ.

Where did I come from? Where am I going? Why am I here? Who was Jesus and what does he have to do with me?
These are some of the questions Pastor Ray Pritchard has set out to answer in his book, An Anchor For The Soul. He's done a good job. There are very few actual Biblical quotes here but his book is firmly rooted in the Gospel of Christ. He makes his points clearly and concisely and his book is a pleasure to read. For the newcomer, the curious soul wondering what it's all about, An Anchor For The Soul serves as a wonderful introduction to the world of Christianity. For the old hand, the one who's been around the church a few times, this book serves as a reminder of what it all means. I found wisdom and enlightenment in the pages of this book. This book does not have all the answers but it will point you in the right direction. If you find yourself lost and confused, give this book a chance. You'll be glad you did.

Excellent Book For Seekers & Christians Alike!,
By Pastor Roger "Roger R." (Chicago, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
First off, I'm a pastor in Chicago. Ray Pritchard is my senior pastor(I don't work for him; I minister at a nearby college). I've enjoyed his sermons for almost 3 & 1/2 years now. So I'm a bit partial to him. With that said, let me say that this is the first book by Dr. Pritchard that I've actually read. It's very down to earth, clear, and easy to read. It took me all of 3 days to finish it(it's only 130 pages long). Dr. Pritchard basically tells us that we're sinners, why we're sinners, why we can't save ourselves, and why we need a savior. But most importantly, he tells us what to do to get saved and to find salvation. He doesn't browbeat the reader into submission or to his ideas. But he lovingly explains all that I've mentioned above. And he proves everything he says in this book. This book would be an excellent gift for anyone and everyone you know that doesn't know Jesus personally. Amen to Dr. Pritchard & this book!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and a refresher for what I already knew to be true. I plan to use it as a witnessing tool and to give copies to family and friends that are not saved because it provides the basic concepts in a nonthreatening way.

This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
There are millions of people living in the world today who could use some help as well as hope. With so many hurting people in our world living lives of brokenness and despair with no one to help them and with no hope or reason to have hope for the future, author Ray Pritchard's book and message is very timely and necessary.Author Pritchard begins his book with the right and necessary place for all of us to begin our journey towards finding help and hope in this world...God. He directs our attention as readers of his book to who God is as well as to what he has done to make it possible for us as sinful fallen man to find "help for the present and hope for the future." He states in the first of his several "Truths to Remember," in the book, "If you live for eighty years but don't know the God who created you, you've missed the very reason for your existence." And so our finding help and hope all begins with our learning about who God is and what he has done for us as well as who we are and what we need to do in order to receive that which God has in his grace and mercy has done for us so that we might experience "the help and hope" that we most desperately need and want and that only God can provide. I view his book as a mini theology book on the doctrines of God, man, sin and salvation. I know that seems like a lot of material to cover in one small book, but cover it author Pritchard does, and in an easy to read, effective and understandable manner. With his book, it is easy to "get it," that is, the message that he is trying to convey which is God is and that he is Sovereign as our Creator, that we are all sinners in need of him and his grace, that God has abundantly provided grace to us to save us from our sin through faith in his son Jesus Christ, and that we can be saved and set free from our sin and the penalty for our sin which is death and eternal separation from God if we will believe in his son Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. He delivers his message in a concise, simple and to the point manner and I like that. And one other aspect of the book that I like is that it is interactive. Author Pritchard gets us as his reader actively involved in the book by providing us with a "Truth To Ponder" and then a section he refers to as "Going Deeper" where he asks us a series of questions for us to consider and then answer at the end of each chapter. An Anchor for the Soul is a good book for any of us who are followers of Christ to read to remind us once again of the basics of our salvation which should cause us to worship and praise God for his grace and goodness to us. The book is also an awesome and effective evangelistic tool that can be used by us to share the gospel with our loved ones and friends...and sharing the book as well as the message in the book is something we all ought to do as the Lord leads us. I received a complementary copy of this book from Moody Publishers for reviewing it.

Book Reveiw,

This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
An Anchor for the Soul by Ray Pritchard is an easy read answering questions for the new believer and re-inforcing beliefs for me that have formed the foundation of my spiritual walk. Do you have questions such as
Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? Pritchard does an excellent job answering some of the toughest questions we encounter today. More importantly he begins with the importance of knowing God well finding out who He is then goes on to tackle other questions. The author begins with who we are without Christ, who Jesus is and what he came to do helping the reader to understand what true saving faith is. He goes on to outline the steps that need to be taken to head in a new direction if the reader is not a follower of Jesus Christ. I agree with one of the endorser's of the book... ...it is a wonderful summary of what the Christian faith is all about. --Timothy George I highly recommend this book to anyone who has questions about the Christian faith or for those who want a refresher course. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I received this book free from Moody Publishers as a part of their Blogger Reveiw Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Excellent Introduction to the Christian Life,

This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
An Anchor for the Soul by Ray Pritchard
This is a book for those people that know very little about God and are interested in learning about Him. It is like an introduction to the Christian life. The book is less than 200 pages, but is a quick easy read. The author has a writing style that would interest a seeker or someone curious about God, yet it presents the facts of Christianity in a simple, clear and correct way. This isn't an easy believism, make you feel good kind of book. The book presents Christ in a real, living manner. I think the subtitle of the book really says it all, "Help for the present, Hope for the future." I recommend this book for anyone wanting to know more about God yet aren't prepared to jump into His Word.

Easy to read and full of sound doctrine,

This review is from: An Anchor for the Soul: Help for the Present, Hope for the Future (Paperback)
This short book by Ray Pritchard is an excellent evangelistic tool. It is a short book that covers the key elements of the Christian faith that is doctrinally sound yet easy to read. The author does a great job of presenting the material without using Christian terms that might not be familiar to those who didn't grow up in church. He clearly explains who Jesus is, what He did, and why we need Him. It's page after page of the Gospel, which is so refreshing. I'm glad to say that Pritchard also understands that the good news in only good in light of the bad news. He uses the Law to show the reader their sinfulness before presenting the Gospel of Grace. His gospel presentation is powerful and thorough, yet easily understandable. It's not the watered-down, seeker-sensitive, come to Jesus for a better life message that so many preach today - it is the true Biblical gospel
. The book is very compelling and easy to read. Each chapter ends with a truth to remember and a section for going deeper. If you have a friend or loved one who it seems that God is drawing to Himself, I would highly recommend giving them a copy of this book. A complimentary review copy of this book was provided to me by C. Grant & Company on behalf of Moody publishing for review purposes, but that in no way influenced my opinion of it. |
