Hidden treat,
By A Customer
This review is from: Anchorman (Audio CD)
I bought this hoping for an extra joke or two on the soundtrack but then it turns out its a whole comedy album with all new material not in the movie. And its vintage Ferrell, hilarious and bizarre. I can't believe they're not advertising this more.

Even Farrell's fans will get tired of this after a few plays,

Will Farrell does more than look pretty on the cover of the soundtrack album for "Anchorman," his summer of 2004 comedy, providing introductions as Ron Burgundy to a dozen songs from the time period of the film (as well as deigning to sing one himself). On the one hand the idea that unlike, say, the soundtrack for "Good Morning, Vietnam," the comic bits from the star of the movie are new material and not sound clips from the film. Sometimes the introductions even have to do something with the songs being played, but that is not always the case. On the other hand after you have heard about sitting on the rib eye in the bathtub a couple of times you have milked all the laughs to be had. Tack on to this the fact that you cannot skip the introductions to these songs it may well get annoying down the road, especially when Ron starts crying in the middle of one of the tracks (on the off chance that you really wanted to hear Henry Gross' "Shannon" without comment or loud weeping). If this was a radio gig or some sort of VH-1 special then this would be pretty good, but as a soundtrack album it is going to be a hit and miss proposition for listeners. Fans of Farrell's humor will enjoy being able to get a bit more of Ron Burgundy, even though he seems to be every where these days (did you catch his tryout for ESPN's "Sportscenter"?), but those who are interested in the music here assembled may well be irritated by the introductions. The songs are decent, with one-hit wonders Blues Image's "Ride Captain Ride" and Jonathan Edward's "Sunshine," and big hits like Kansas' "Carry on Wayward Son," the Friends of Distinction's "Grazing in the Grass," and Neil Diamond's "Cherry Cherry." Plus, any album that brings together Bill Withers and Tom Jones is pushing the envelope. Still, you should have most of these, not to mention the Survivor cut that is not here. The "Anchorman" soundtrack is an album that is not so much a keeper as something ideally suited for being passed amongst friends who have seen the movie. I just have a hard time with the idea that even die-hard Will Farrell fans are going to be giving this constant play. So what you can do is buy it, listen to it a couple of times, and then charge your friends a buck or two to listen to it so they can check it out. Just do not tell Ron Burgundy, because you know he is going to want his cut.

First off fellow reviewers, please learn how to spell. It is Will Ferrell, not Ferrel (you have the CD, read it). I second the reviewer who claimed that some of you are retarded. Retarded and without a sense of humor. Seriously, if your intent was to buy a CD of 70s music simply to enjoy a flashback and not relive the movie (and to share with your children) why would you buy a soundtrack? The movie was hilarious and, obviously, meant for more mature viewers...so, why get so offended? You really are quite the dullard.

Great songs, separate the intros,

I bought this because there were a couple of hard-to-find old tracks I wanted. I thought the movie was funny, but come on, if you've got to add inane intros, make them separate from the song. Disappointing.

Great selection,

This can probably go in my Top 10 greatest soundtracks. It is especially good because it is perfect for the movie. I also like the songs, they are enjoyable. This is may get boring, but I don't think so. This soundtrack will put a smile on your face almost everytime you listen to it.

Brilliant compliment to the movie,

This album may not have the greatest songs, but it does have a hilarious narration by Will Farrell as Ron Burgundy. The entire album is worth it just for Will Ferrel and the track where the "channel four newsteam" sings "Afternoon Delight".....if you liked the movie, buy this album.

1 Word! Shannon.,

Shannon. Probably defines how cheezy the 70's were, and yet still makes me cry everytime I hear it. A song about a boy losing his little dog 'Shannon'. Whoever decided to add this tune is a genious. It takes alot of guts baby.

I thought it would be good,

It was disappointing to find out that "Ron Burgundy" talks on the first and last song. Even worse was that he has at least a 30 second introduction for each song and even talks through the whole of "Shannon". A plus was when Ron and his crew sing "Afternoon Delight" and do a good job.
This compilation of songs is fantastic, but the talking truly compromises the quality of the cd. My suggestion is if you like the music on this soundtrack, you should probably find it somewhere else. In other words, don't get this soundtrack unless you think you can handle it.

Too much Will Ferrell trying to be funny,

I bought this CD because of the music- lots of great songs that I rarely hear. Unfortunately, Will Ferrell (in his Ron Burgundy persona) does a lengthy introduction - up to 25 seconds long- for each song. It was ok for the first song, but after that it is simply obnoxious. I can't imagine anyone wanting to listen to him do that schtick more than once. In short, don't buy this unless you need to hear Will Ferrell do the same lame routines again & again.
