I Remember,
By riot67 (detroit) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ancient Artifacts (Audio CD)
Saw these guys twice; once in San Diego in 87 at a show that ended up in a riot and once in Detroit in about 90 or 91. They are powerfull live and they portrayed the DIY punk ethic to a tee. This cd presents that same ethic and is a lasting document of a time long gone. D.I. never really took themselves too seriously and they're society jabs like the ones they make in "OC Life" are priceless. Unlike many of they're contemporaries who hid behind political pretension D.I. never did. They were punks and punks only and never portrayed themselves otherwise.

real surf/punk,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ancient Artifacts (Audio CD)
This is D.I.'s first full length album and a surf punk classic that ranks up there with Agent Oranges 'Living In Darkness' and the Posh Boy compilation Beach Blvd. There are some great songs on here like "O.C. Life","Eringzo","Falling Out" and one of best punk songs ever "Hang Ten In East Berlin". Bands like Pennywise and Das Klown owe alot of their sound to D.I..

This was my first gig that I experienced when I was 13yrs. old back in 1985. These guys to this day are still one of the best performances I have experienced. They definitely fill any atmosphere with a high energy that get way down deep into the soul. And you can't get enough of Casey's magnetic out of this world personality and humor!!!

Old Classic,

A fun album (now on cd) to listen to for the punk music crowd. Don't know what ever became of this band but back in the day they were fairly popular. I believe they were featured in the punk movie classic "Suburbia". Anyway, I lost this audio tape long time ago around my senior year in high school. Haven't heard it since but some of the songs are still stuck in my head. Luckily I have been able to find a lot of exotic and otherwise hard to find music at Amazon (Very impressive). This album has a lot of catchy songs and the lyrics are sharp and sometimes comical. They can really put together a tune not just punk Oi Oi Oi! Anyway, this is an old album and surely anyone who is looking to purchase it knows what they are getting, so enjoy the nostalgia.

The Best of the Bunch!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ancient Artifacts (Audio CD)
It's hard to decide which DI album is the best, their debut Team Goon or this, their second album. This one is longer, and it contains their three best songs ever, OC Life, Falling Out, and Hang Ten In East Berlin, so I guess this one gets my vote. Rikk Agnew's guitar playing shines on this album more than any other, it makes you want to go surfing every time you hear it. The fact that some of the songs on this album came from Rikk's solo LP probably helped this matter. The cd also contains a live performance with an awesome version of the Adolescents' Kids of the Black Hole. If you're only going to own one DI album, make sure it's this one, the energy on this album is incredible.

Can't go wrong,
This review is from: Ancient Artifacts (Audio CD)
If you like old school punk in it's finest form you can't go wrong with this masterpiece. I would recommend all three of the first DI records. (TEAM GOON, ANCIENT ARTIFACTS, HORSE BITES DOG CRIES) Also consider, The Adolescents Blue album, live in 81-86, and Brats in Battalions.

Good old school so-cal punk,
By The Ricker "A to the X" (Oakland, CA. United States) - See all my reviews

While this is my only D.I. a;bum to date i do have the adolescents album as well as a bunch of other california punk bands of the 70's and 80's (dead kennedys, avengers, mdc, angry samoans, descendents and agent orange among others) I think that this bands fits in among those bands and the scene at the time. In some instances it reminds me exactlt of the adolescents and others it leans into a little darker territory like agent orange. Just a good fun album even the live portion isnt too bad even though the sound cuts out for a few seconds once in a while. they should probaly re-master this album one day even though it sounds like a lot of punk records of the time.
