I home school a 5th-grader. I bought this book to help flesh-out the history lessons on China in The Mystery of History curriculum. I was pleased with the book overall. The reading level is not terribly difficult and there is a good balance of pictures and text. My daughter found it interesting.

This is a good overview of ancient China. The accompanying photos and graphics are excellent. They also use both pin yin and phonetics to help you pronounce Chinese words. Wish it had gone a bit deeper into the various areas the book covers. We used it in our homeschool and were able to get a number of useful facts from it.

Excellent book! This is the second of Virginia Schomp's books I have read in this Scholastic Book reference series for children.

I remain impressed by the quality of the writing, the illustrations and the supplemental materials.

This is a truly beautiful series of books. I think now I will buy the whole set!
