Amazon.com Review
Eyewitness Books' Ancient Egypt continues the tradition of excellent, accurate, and beautiful reference works for kids 9 to 12 years old. Ancient Egyptian civilization holds a special fascination for many, with its mummies, pyramids, and highly stylized artworks. Kids can explore a Pharaoh's tomb, see a mummy up close, and find out about Egyptian gods. Lots of archaeological relics show what life was like for the ancient Egyptians, from how they dressed to the games they played. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From School Library Journal
Grade 4-7-- Two more books in this series that continues to dazzle the eye with hundreds of color photographs and illustrations. Each two-page spread treats one particular aspect of the civilization, such as architecture, religion, agriculture, or recreational activities. All items pictured are identified with brief captions and clear definitions. Most are of excavated artifacts, but when these would not suffice to demonstrate visually some aspect of the culture, drawings or modern reconstructions are used. Striking examples include the reconstructioned Roman helmet, breastplate, and legionary's field pack. However, it's unfortunate that there are no timelines to help readers grasp the historical period. Similar books have been produced before, but seldom with the kind of stunning visuals provided here. Browsing through these books is second only to seeing the articles attractively displayed in a museum. --David N. Pauli, Missoula Public Library, MT

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, May 21, 2002
By "mimser" (La Jolla, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I'm a dabbler in Ancient Egyptian history and this is a great buy. At under $15 I think it's a great deal considering it's hardcover and has a TON of full color pictures. It covers a wide array of topics from Geography to Pharoahs. The book is handsome enough to display on a coffee table, detailed enough to get a taste of ancient egypt, and still simple enough that it would make a terrific gift for a child of any age (I'm 23 and I think this book is fantastic).

Other topics include: daily life of the Egyptian (not just nobility!), tools, jewelry, mummification, writing system, agriculture, textiles, food, religion.

5.0 out of 5 stars SEE ancient Egypt, January 28, 2001
By yarden "yarden" (portland, or) - See all my reviews
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other nonfiction picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful museum-quality photos of all things related to Egypt, accompanied by informative captions and text.

Learn about Egypt, mummies, egyptian gods, and everyday life in Egypt. SEE the objects common to everyday life in Egypt. If you know someone (young or old) who is fascinated by Egypt and archaeology, then you must introduce them to this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!, August 6, 2000
By "asrd1" (Lincolnton, NC United States) - See all my reviews
While the presentation makes this an excellent book for younger readers, the content and photographs make this a great reference book for all ages. One could have a shelf of books and still not have the pictoral breadth of this volume. Belongs in every serious collection of books on Ancient Egypt.
