Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Add color to a remarkable artistic and cultural legacy
Magnificent pyramids, the silent Sphinx, gigantic temples of stone, a land and people shrouded by the mists of time. Here's a subject that promises to captivate coloring book enthusiasts and anyone intrigued by the life and customs of ancient Egypt.
Forty-four authentically detailed drawings by artist John Green recall the glory of a magnificent civilization — from the beginning of the dynasties (ca. 300 B.C.), through the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms (ca. 2700–2010 B.C.), to the rule of the Ptolemies and the Roman conquest (30 B.C.)
Included are expertly drawn and well-researched full-page illustrations of Cleopatra, Ramses II, the Pharaoh Akhenaten and his beautiful wife, Nefertiti, as well as scenes depicting many aspects of Egyptian life — construction of the six-story step pyramid at Sakkara, fishing and farming along the Nile, the Sphinx and pyramids at Giza, goldsmiths and metalworkers creating elegant works of art, and more.
An informative introduction and fact-filled captions accompany this fascinating chronicle of life in the Land of the Pharaohs.

This is a beautifully designed book. The drawings stand on their own, and teach as well as provide coloring fun. This book is great for 4th to 6th graders. I will be using it to enhance a unit on Ancient Egypt and think the kids will love it.

Kids of all ages should love this book. It is historically accurate, and the pictures are easy to color. Just have a lot of "sand" type colors available. The art work is excellent, and the resulting pictures can look really "spiffy" if you use bright colors. There is a nice spectrum of subjects, dealing with everyday life, to nobles & royalty, famous battles, mummies, and ending with Cleopatra meeting Ceasar. A really neat book for the price.

Being a large (and very old) kid myself, I probably enjoy this one as much as the kids do, and they, without exception, are delighted with it. This finished product is quite eye catching and the drawings are simply fun to color-in. As an added bonus, quite a lot can be learned about ancient Egypt and it is interesting to discuss the pictures with the children. This, as has been pointed out by other reviewers, is an excellent supplement for the study of these ancient times. The pictures are well executed, simple, but complex enough to be a bit of a challenge. I find this one best to use for those at around the sixth or fifth grade level. This is one book in a series of book covering our ancient past and is certainly a good addition. Recommend this one highly.

My granddaughter especially likes this book, she is fascinated with the lives of Ancient Egyptians and the history of that time. These are easy to scan and then print, thus saving the book for more than one use. Good large pictures, not fussy or hard to determine what the picture or item is. Wonderful for young gifted children.

The stuff in this book is in more depth than my old high school textbooks. Why they don't include this with the required reading I will never understand.

The Dover series of History Coloring books is NOT designed for little kids. These exquisitely intricate pictures are accompanied by detailed historical information about specific areas of interest. They are a wonderful supplement to any history curriculum, especially for children who are visual learners. Look for other volumes in the same series!

Beautifully illustrated images with captions explaining each setting. Just be warned, in the center of the page there is a nude scene in Pharaoh's court with topless dancers. Tastefully done but still might not be something you want your little ones to see.
These photocopy excellently so that each my kids can color the page. Wonderful coloring book.
