Thought this book would make a great gift for my eight year old grandchild and really enjoyed this book myself! Graphic and entertaining, I couldn't put it down. What a way to sneak in a little learning in the process. Love the illustrator's style and find the characters are so endearing and funny. FIVE STARS!! ***** Can't wait to purchase the other book in the series, Viking Dudes as I am sure it will have the same appeal.

DK is known for books with great information presented in creative ways, and this is definitely in that line. Ancient Egyptian history is lively and fun, and gives a picture of Ancient Egyptian life.

On the downside, they say "dude" about 348 times (no, I didn't count), and I was shocked to find swear words in a children's picture book. I could get past the "dudes" in the name of fun, but DK definitely should have edited out the swearing. Maybe they couldn't get past the "dudes" and didn't notice.

We LOVE this book. Our daughter (6) is passionate about ancient Egypt. She loves everything about the past there, and we've read a zillion books. THIS ONE, however, was the only one where we fell out laughing as we were reading it, and that we laugh with again and again. Clever illustrations and excellent writing make this book a MUST-READ. The other books in the series are equally as good!

If you're a fan of the "Horrible Histories" series by Terry Dreary, then you'll love the "History Dudes". It's written in a similarly irreverent style that entertains while it informs. Some parents may not care for the heavy use of slang (the omnipresent "dude" & "dudette", "bummer", "awesome", "cool", etc.) Also, like many DK books, the layout is a bit cluttered.
