Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 3-4--Colorful illustrations, maps, and photographs combined with attractive, open pages and large, easy-to-read print provide appealing packages. Unfortunately, the dry, stilted texts are not interesting enough to hold readers' attention. Topics that cover highlights of everyday life, customs, culture, and history are presented in a two-page spread format. Information on topics is at times so brief that it can be confusing for readers unfamiliar with the subject area. Anne Pearson's Ancient Greece (1992), George Hart's Ancient Egypt (1990, both Knopf), and Neil Grant's The Egyptians (Oxford Univ., 1996) provide more adequate introductory material and have an attention-grabbing appearance, although they are at a slightly higher reading level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy for children to understand!, April 7, 2001
By
Kelly (California) - See all my reviews
I think this book is easy to understand for children in the 1st and 2nd grade at least. My son read this book for a book report on Egypt and talked about the things he learned for days later. "Mom did you know this and Mom did you know that..." Definitly a great book for school.

This great book on Ancient Egypt provides a brief history of Ancient Egypt, through its river, its numerous pharaohs, its trade, religion, mummies, pyramids, culture, and medicine. A short glossary is made available. Recommended for youngsters, ages 8 to 10.
