Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

From Melanie Rawn's evocative retelling of the story of Narcissus ("The Lady's Gift") to Pamela Sargent's powerful tale of a young Mongolian woman's power to change the future ("Erdeni's Tiger"), the 19 tales in this varied sampler chronicles the unseen magics that have touched the history of the world. Because it features contributions by Andre Norton, Lois Tilton, Lawrence Watt-Evans, and other veteran fantasy and sf authors, this collection should appeal to fans of both fantasy and historical fiction.

Review

Almost twenty stories of sorceresses from around the world in different situations present satisfyingly diverse stories, retelling classic tales from new perspectives - as in Andre Norton’s ‘Last Spell’, or adding new dimensions to the image and concerns of the enchantress. An excellent collection which presents many twists and turns. -- Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Women at their finest !!!, June 8, 2009
All right- so I'm a bit partial to the women in these fascinating stories! Yes, we all enjoy being [...] once in awhile, men! I found this refreshing array of short stories quite to my taste, a few I could totally relate to! This is a superior anthology not-to-be-missed, filled with vastly different takes on the Age-Old myth of Queens/Enchantresses/Witches and I promise you will be glad you read this anthology of [...] at their best!
