5.0 out of 5 stars Fornander's Ancient History of Hawaiian People, October 20, 2009

This review is from: Ancient History of the Hawaiian People to the Times of Kamehameha I (Mass Market Paperback)
A great resource that open your mind to the only known history of the ancient Hawaiian people ...their handed down through the generations of songs and chants. Fornanader does a superb job of analyzing the credence of these accounts based upon repetition of statements in these old songs and chants. He also looks into the written history of the European visits ...for example: did you know there is documented proof in Portugal that shows that Spanish/Portuguese ships visited the islands 200 years before Captain Cook? Find out by reading the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical "History" Tour, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Ancient History of the Hawaiian People to the Times of Kamehameha I (Mass Market Paperback)
This gem of a book is an excellent resource tool that digs and delves into the history of ancient Hawaiian people. It really is a cultural gift, a sharing of the culture, traditional songs and stories that have been handed down for generations and some Hawaiian words. Fornanader is truly a scholar of Hawaiian history and his research is impeccable. He even includes Euro-Hawaiian history, such as explorers from various European countries who sailed to Hawaii. Some of these expeditions predate Captian Cook, who met with a very gruesome fate. Documents of these expeditions are included in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hawaiian history., August 1, 2011

This review is from: Ancient History of the Hawaiian People to the Times of Kamehameha I (Mass Market Paperback)
I tryed to get into this book a few times and different depths, even skipping around. It is One Tough Read. After I finish "Hawaii" by Mitchner, and "The Shoals of Time" by Daws, I might return for a last attempt.
