This is a rather miscellaneous collection of well-written essays in recent Indian archaeology. The topics are scattered from sediment analysis to textual criticism, and the measure of archaeology data presented in each varies widely. All of them share in the theme of being 'new'--they distinguish new trends in Indian archaeology. I especially enjoyed the 'Landscapes on Life and Death.'
