Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms & Superstitions of Ireland is the ultimate "window through time" for anyone who longs to live in a less cynical, materialistic age, a time when magick was real, and everything around you - both Nature and the world of people - was alive with spirits, both benevolent and capricious. This is true ethnology, the real folk stories of the real people of the towns and villages and countryside of Ireland, stories that have their origins in the mists of time, but which were still firmly believed (and experienced) to be true in the time Lady Wilde gathered them into this classic volume. These are not "children's stories." They are the un-retouched magickal beliefs and stories of the common people, the "pagani" of the Irsih countryside. I read this book over and over, and it breaks my heart every time. I want to live in the world these stories describe! The 21st Century stinks! Reading Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms & Superstitions of Ireland is like looking through a window into the time my soul knows as home. If you understand what I mean, then you MUST own this book!

These stories are so fun and I enjoyed reading them. Lady Wilde is so good in her descriptions. She shows an old world where strength and honor were taught children in the forms of stories. Word of mouth has brought them down through the ages to people who try to make sense of them. It was a dangerous time, one needed wits to survive. I liked the way Lady Wilde brought the characters alive and real. I truly liked it.
