From Library Journal
Greek drama has often been reinterpreted to reflect and comment on contemporary issues. In this scholarly study, McDonald (theater, Univ. of California) focuses on modern plays directed by Tadashi Suzuki, Peter Sellars, Tony Harrison, Heiner Muller, and Thomas Murphy, all of which draw upon Greek tragedies to call our attention to such topics as war, rape, murder, and various forms of oppression. While her study should be of interest to serious students of drama, it is much too cumbersome for the general reader. Only large, academic libraries with comprehensive drama collections should consider purchasing.
