5.0 out of 5 stars Open Minds to all kinds of Love
From the mystical aspects of chanting the many Goddess names in Ancient Mother, to the joyful beat of Puna is Dancing, to the mothers grief of loosing a son in Mary's Keen, this is a CD that will take you through many moods of the Goddess herself. I have read some reviews where people were complaining about what they percieved as some Christian-based songs on the CD...

Very beautiful collection of chants. His book with KB 'Discovering the Spirit in Sound', is also excellent, and recommended for the person interested in chants. He is very eclectic. Listen to some of the free sound bites first- not for everyone, his style somewhat different from some of the other chanting tapes I personally collect. ***Melissa

From the mystical aspects of chanting the many Goddess names in Ancient Mother, to the joyful beat of Puna is Dancing, to the mothers grief of loosing a son in Mary's Keen, this is a CD that will take you through many moods of the Goddess herself. I have read some reviews where people were complaining about what they percieved as some Christian-based songs on the CD. However,I have found this CD to be music honoring the many different views of The Mother from around the world, and for some people, that Mother happens to be the Mother of Jesus Christ. Why is this a problem? Love is Love and this CD does an awesome job of expressing that. It is the nature of the female aspect of our Creator to be a unifier, not a separator, and one who truly follows the ways of the Goddess should realize that. I believe the CD does a wonderful job of honoring many different aspects of the Goddess frokm cultures all around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Goddess/Pagan music, December 20, 2002
This review is from: Ancient Mother (Audio CD)
This is very beautyful. I listen to it often. The music is done in diffrent styles. You dont have one type. Here you have Santarian, Hawaiin, Hindu, and more. Some song are sung in english and others in diffrent languages. If you love the Goddess and chorua music (not all of it is chorus) then you just may enjoy Ancient Mother very much. The music and singing are so devotional and so full of love and beauty. I especially love the song Ancient mother and Kali bhajan very much. Blessed Be the goddesses. Jai Ma!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, June 27, 2000
This review is from: Ancient Mother (Audio CD)
By far one of the best and most energizing cd's I own. The music, the sounds, the energy just sweeps you away into a frienzied dance of power and spirit that is rushes through the room. My favorite track, The circle is cast, is by far the most moving and motivating song I have ever heard, for me and my friend who have heard it, it has become a regular part of our daily ritual. Well done!

I heard the title track to this in my interfaith seminary for our Wiccan lecture. As a Wiccan, I was excited to hear it. I look for to introducing my coven to it! Beautiful earth sounds with thought-provoking chanting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, June 30, 2001

One of my favorite recordings: mystical, lyrical and inspiring. The last cut - "A Circle is Cast" - is an all-out gospel celebration of the Goddess. It still brings tears to my eyes (AND sets my toes to tapping) every time I hear it. I've actually worn out two CD's playing that last number.

It was worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spend sacred moments with Goddess, May 24, 2006

I've read people say Goddess is not Christian, to which I have to reply Goddess transcends all religions. Mother Mary happens to be the Goddess that has been worshiped the most throughout the globe, much more than any other Goddess, She is the Magna Mater today. As such, She is Sophia, and She is also an expression of the Virgin and the Mother (First and second persons in the Goddess Trinity).

Having said that, Ancient Mother is a tapestry, a mosaic of Goddess music from the Wiccan and Pagan, Polynesian, Native American, African, Hindu, and Christian traditions. Ancient Mother, Yemaya, and Circle is Cast can be used in groups, and I have used them, but most of the other songs are best used in private meditation, worship, and prayer to Her Spirit.

There is a lot of beauty and magic in the first track, Ancient Mother. Yemayá is traditional Santeria / Ifa music, and those who aren't familiar may not know this but its drumming rhythm is meant to imitate the tides, the back and forth movement of Yemaya's tides, for Yemaya is the Lady of the Seas.

Viridissima Virga is simply paganism clothed in monastic guise: the boundaries between Christian and Pagan are blurred entirely in the verbiage of this Gregorian chant. The music is for worship. Enjoy!

Goddess bless.

This is one of the best (if not THE BEST) Pagan/Goddess centered chant CD's on the market!

Robert Gass and his choir have done it again! This album crosses time and space, culture and language, and religious traditions! Z. Budapest does a wonderful appearance on the CD in track #9 (Glad Woman)! The CD also has a wonderful resource/suggested reading section....

Highly recommended for anyone! This is one of the best musical purchases I have ever made!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Variety, January 5, 2007

The rafter-shaking gospel version of "A Circle Is Cast" is worth the entire purchase price of this CD. If you end up playing the rest of it, more's the better. The music embraces a diversity of styles and moods, from pure, fine chorale to more raw and primal chants. Whether or not you love every single song in this eclectic mix, you will definitely find something that you will play over and over. Some songs are in English and you can sing along, others are not but definitely "hummable." I've recommended this to numerous people in our pagan circle and everyone has given it a thumbs up.

This CD is fantastic! There are several styles of music presented here, and all are wonderful for circle use, solitary ritual, or just pleasure listening. The 23rd Psalm is especially beautiful!
