Book Description

January 1, 1992
The Series of Sunday evening lectures which comprise this book were first given in Pullman Memorial Church, Albion, NY. The many calls for the lectures in printed form led to their publication. We trust that the book may contribute to a better understanding of the Order by the general public; inspiring our Brother Masons to greater appreciation of and loyalty to the Fraternity, and encouraging all to labor for the realization of the great principles and ideals embodied in the Ancient Mysteries and our Modern Masonry. Contents: Origin and Object of the Ancient Mysteries; Egyptian, Hindu, and Persian Mysteries; Druidical, Gothic, Grecian, and Jewish Mysteries; Christian Mysteries; Meaning of True Initiation; Origin and History of Freemasonry; Origin and History of the Knights Templars and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Symbols and Legends of Masonry; List of Masonic and Kindred Books.

From the Publisher

Kessinger Publishing reprints over 1,500 similar titles all available through Amazon.com.

From the Back Cover

Though the author cannot, alas, "lift the veil from the secrets of the Order," 32nd-degree Freemason Charles H. Vail endeavors to lead the curious toward a more complete understanding of the ancient knowledge of the eternal truth of the universe of which the Masons are the keepers.

From the great antiquity of Masonic symbols and traditions to the formation of the organization with their perpetuation as its goal, this 1909 book is an intriguing glimpse inside one of the most secretive fraternities in existence.

It is required reading for those fascinated by arcane wisdom and secret societies. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

This review is from: Ancient Mysteries and Modern Masonry (Paperback)
This book was in the bibliography of Stolen Legacy and I bought it to read the original source material for that work. It was a very interesting perspective from a 32nd degree mason who gave a series of lectures in new york at the turn of the 20th century. In it he describes our modern religion in terms of the symbolic ideas as well as the literal meaning. He analyzes the new testament and the life of Jesus and claims that all religions have connections to secret societies and it is necessary to understand the secrets of these societies to understand religious works and religion from this perspective.
