1.0 out of 5 stars Poor design for an otherwise great item
This specific design does not work well for me. I have difficulty getting the water from the container into my nose without spilling it and making a mess.

You do not have to purchase any mixture to put into your water. Using a pinch of non iodized salt in the water works just as well. Iodized salt will burn terribly.

I have a much easier...

I don't share the previous reviewer's buying experience because I purchased this product at a local store.

This is my first neti pot and I enjoy it, especially when I'm congested. It took a time or two learn how to use it properly. You need to tilt your head properly to prevent the water from pouring down your throat and out of your mouth and also to make use pain free. The pot also needs to be warmed up first, which is done simply by running warm water through it before use. Otherwise, you'll find that you've got cold water going through your nose despite putting in warm water at the tap. Make sure that you add a quarter teaspoon of kosher salt and use warm water. It makes use more comfortable.

The neti pot does not work well when your sinuses are totally blocked. I usually pop a few Sudafed PE tablets, wait for a bit of decongestion to occure, and then neti. You'll be surprised what comes out of your nose! I only have to do this when I have a cold. Otherwise, I use it daily and my sinuses stay clean and clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can Breathe Bette, May 21, 2007
This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
I was very septical at first. I saw the Neti Pot for the first time on the Oprah Winfrey show. I have seasonal allergies that I developed as an adult. After many tests I learned I was allergic to all things environmental. Certain trees, grass, mold, dust, pollen, perfum, etc. I've used Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc. And all have had some side effects, the most important one on my wallet
I've found that I have gotten natural relief through the daily cleaning out my sinuses. And it feels great not to need a pill to breathe. Who knew cleaning my nose with warm water and a little salt was the solution. The drug companies know and would rather us use their products than this inexpensive natural way.
I recommend this to anyone suffering from allergies. It is odd at first, but you'll get used to it and your body will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Snot Pot Drains a Lot, May 24, 2007
This little Godsend is ideal for nasal irrigation. I first became aware of it on May 22, 2007 when Dr. Oz had a guest do a demonstration with the Neti Pot on the Oprah! show. When I saw what it was capable of doing, I went out and bought one that same evening. This product is ideal for relieving sinus pressure/sinusitis; allergic rhinitis and any other reason for nasal blockage.

The Neti Pot is simple to use. You fill it with 1 cup of lukewarm water; a 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized salt and stir until the salt dissolves. You then fill the freshly washed pot. Insert the spout into one nostril with your head tilted to one side. You will be amazed at the amount of nasal drainage.

You refill the pot and repeat the process on the other side. Be sure to wash your pot out after each usage. I love my Neti Pot and cannot imagine how I managed without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A life saver, September 3, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
I saw this on Oprah, although I had heard about them before, it sounded gross.
But once I saw it, it didn't look that bad. So, my first sinus infection, I ran to the health food store to buy one. I normally drink a vinegar and honey solution (2tbs vinegar, 1 tbs honey) in a glass of water (it works like guaifensin) to thin the mucus and I don't need a neti pot. This time the sinus infection was bad. I blew my nose so much that the outside of my nose was irritated, because my mucus was too thick to come out. The neti pot saved me. I could not believe that it would bring out more green mucus at the end, even though I could not previously blow my nose and get anything else out. And this was the plug that normally stays there and keeps the infection going strong. Once I did this, I could breathe!!!
This is an amazing product! My 11 yr old daughter who constantly complains of a headache, tried it too, and says her headache is gone.
If it doesn't work for you, you are doing something wrong. Keep trying. I think it's more effective if the water is warm enough but not too much so that it is uncomfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who knew this would give Fast and Effective Relief to years of allergies?, November 24, 2007
This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
My mother had always cleaned out her nose after having surgery to clean her sinus cavities after years of severe infections. I thought it was disgusting. She told me it was the only way to alleviate her headache and mucous as well as terminate other colds. I didn't believe her until, as a professional singer, I had an emergency prior to performing. She used a bulb syringe for hers so that it what I tried at the time. I thought it was going to choke me at first, like accidentally getting pool water up your nose. Also, the salt can feel tingly/burning at first if you are severely affected. Still, I got over the illness in less than a day...a MIRACLE! I have used this routinely since and tend to flush my nose out once every hour when I get the first hint of a runny nose and it never lasts more than a day. I like my neti pot more than the bulb syringe and would have switched earlier had I known they existed. I was always concerned about properly disinfecting the bulb syringe so I purchased new ones. This is easier to clean. You do get used to it and I happily recommend this product. Honestly, it is no more disgusting than all those used tissues. You just get it over with in one place and can put the pot in the dishwasher.

I have a much easier time with the Neti pot made by the Himalayan Institute. Amazon carries those as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Design makes itharder to spill when mixing, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
WHY I USE IT: I discovered the benefits of using a neti pot several years ago. First, the director of a play I was in recommended it for me, but I thought it sounded weird! A couple years later, I had a friend that used hers once per day and, after years of suffering with "allergies," sinus infections, and "colds," I was desperate to try something other than medicine, which never worked and made me feel icky. I tried it and have been cured ever since. Every once in awhile I stop using it because I get lazy and cocky (I should use it AT LEAST once every two weeks, preferably once per week) and then I get a sinus infection again, reminding me how awful it is! It feel great to use it, like a fresh feeling, but sometimes I forget, especially before I go to sleep.

WHY I LIKE THIS ONE: I have used this and the Himalayan one and have known friends with multiple designs of neti pots. I don't spill any water out of the top with this one. Also, the handle is comfortable to handle when I use, clean, and store it. The ceramic material is durable. This design is easily approachable for the new user.

HOW TO USE IT (you should really follow the instructions provided with the neti pot): To use a neti pot, you need to fill it with water and salt. The amount of salt will differ with neti pots, but is usually around 1/4 tsp. of non-iodized granulated salt (I never measure anymore). Lean over a sink and tilt your head to one side (not like you are looking down, but as though you are stretching your neck on one side) and insert the spout into the nostril closest to the ceiling (if you tilt your left side to your left shoulder, hold the pot in your right hand and insert into right nostril). Wait until all of the water empties from the other nostril, gently blow your nose, and repeat on other side.

MY METHOD (this was passed on to me from a friend and I was slow to catch on, but now this is the way I mix it): I use an electric kettle to heat purified water. I clean the neti pot very well both before and after use with hot water (if you use a dishwasher, I would rinse it off first anyway because I don't believe the harsh, chlorinated soap is good for you). I add the salt to the pot and pour about 1 inch of HOT water into the pot, stirring with a very small utensil (like a measuring spoon). This melts the salt really well! Then, I fill it with cool water to bring it to room temperature. If the water is too cold or too hot, it will feel uncomfortable; I first test it with my finger, then if it seems okay I will pour a little onto the tip of my nose. If it feels right there, it is.

If I am in a hurry, I will use half the pot for each side; if not, I use the whole pot for one side, blow, then refill in the same manner. NOTE: I have found that the water goes through MUCH better if I always start with a particular side, then do the other (it won't go through if I start with the other first!). If one side is stuck, give it a try anyway, and then you can blow your nose gently. Then see if it will go through the other side, then later redo the first side.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
I have suffered from sinus issues for many years due to my deviated septum. I find that when I can clear my nose enough, since a deviated septum makes that hard to do at times with a sinus infection, to get some air flow and then use the netty pot... it's amazing! I love the feeling that I get after I'm done using it because you feel like you are experiencing breathing for the first time. It feels so nice once you can adjust the temperature of the water to your liking. I like mine on the warmer side. It is a little awkward at first but if you lean forward, tilt your head and open your mouth, it works perfectly. Don't panic if some drains out of your mouth. That is normal too at times but it won't happen all the time. Just remember, once you are done, blow your nose gently. You don't have to blow it hard because you can hurt your ears and also get a bit of a headache if you blow too hard. The Dr. recommended that I do this twice a day since I'm a sinusitus sufferer. I highly recommend this!

This review is from: Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti Pot (Health and Beauty)
The University of Wisconsin, Madison did a study a couple of yrs ago that studied these, and they are as useful, or more so than any medications out there. Highly recommended for seasonal allergy sufferers or folks with chronic sinus problems. Don't know about this exact brand, but the idea is proven to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neti Pot HEALS!, April 10, 2007
THANK GOD relief from sinus pain FINALLY! Really easy to use, though I was scared at first it really is no big deal & well worth the results. My boyfriend uses it every day now because his work is a bit dirty, he likes to use it over the white porcelain sink to see the garbage that is coming out!!
