Required reading if you want to learn the history and the basics of the history of the Pecos area. Join the Rock Art group that protects the area in cooperation with the land owners and you will open up a whole new world for yourself. Do this now, while most all of the Rock Art is still available to see personally.

This IS NOT a book on rock art of the lower Pecos! It mostly address the "Lifeways." Out of 238 pages, only 50 pages address the rock art of this area! The rest includes history and evolution of the PEOPLE who lived there; shelters, diet, clothing, weapons, etc. Chapter 6 is on the rock art of Africa and Australia. Chapter 7 (16 pages) is on shamanism. Check out "Rock Art of the Lower Pecos." by Carolyn Boyd.

Incredibly informative. The chronological chart is awesome and sobering. There is a revised edition entitled
Painters in Prehistory.
