This review is from: Ancient Danish Textiles from Bogs and Burials (Publications of the National Museum. Archaeological-historical series) (Hardcover)
A fascinating and comprehensive study of extant Iron Age textiles and clothing from deposits and burials in Denmark. The author examines finds from peat bogs, settlements and burials, discussing the raw materials and techniques used. Weaving patterns, probable loom construction, spindles, stitches and clothing construction are all examined. The information is valuable for the consideration of Iron Age Northern European clothing as a whole, as well as for that of subsequent eras.Out of print and rather hard to come by, but a treasure. |
