Boring, lame and just awful especially the whispering voices, they are so annoying. I did not get lost in the music or experiance any relaxation listening to a flute not level with sound and overpowering everything.

I came across this disc by accident, but the more I listen to it; the more I believe it was not an accident. Although I must admit that I was searching for some music that personified a Native American tone, I happened to be browsing through the New Age section of a music store at the artists' names when I spotted this unforseen masterpiece. My soul has been seeking a flavor of music that was soothing and full of natural quality.
This album from the mellow, but groovy, Ceremony to the defining title track,"Ancient Voices" is the purist answer to my ears. It moves really distinctly on track 3 "The Sacred Fire", and blends with the appeal of an ancient heritage on track 6 "Eagle's Path." It is soothing with chimes, and timely drumbeats, while not overpowering with each. This collection stays trendy with it's synthesizer without drowning you in it. The flutes leave an impression that you are hearing those spirits from the past. The sleeve inside asks that the listener be inspired by it's enchantment and mystery. The only mystery is how the voices relax you while transporting your soul through the echoes of a people that once thrived in the Four Corners Region. Their culture is justly represented on this offering, and alive and well in that place from another time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excursions to the dwelling of Ancient Voices, March 5, 2003

This album is of the best mystic Native American music I have heard. All three discs from the Ah Nee Mah series of David and Diane Arkenstone capture an essence of exotic beauty and meaning beyond that of many fellow New Age artists. This album, as well as being a relaxing and/or meditation aid, has a complete concept around itself from begining to end just as any journey through music should. The soundscapes of Ancient Voices will take you there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new voice, December 28, 2001
This review is from: Ancient Voices (Audio CD)
I love this Cd. It is perfect for relaxing and hanging out with. It has a very Native American feel too it. Yet it is new and fresh. THis is some of the best New Age music that I have come across. The group AH Nee Mah is a blessing and I hope they keep producing music like this. They have a unique spirit that I am drawn to and enjoy. I hope they make 100 hundred cd's. I'll buy them all if they continue to be up to this magical blend. I own both of their Cd's ANcient Voices and Spirit of the Canyon. I think that both are 5 star quality but I enjoy this one a tad better. It is more relaxing and natural. It blends right into my life whether I am reading writing thinkg meditating, Whatever if you know what I mean. It's good for that too. I highly recomend this Cd. It is the first non Doo wop Cd that I have ever given a Five star rating although like I said I enjoy their other Cd as well as Enya's and Dean Evenson's. New Age music has come of age and I welcome it wholeheartedly if it continues to be as beautiful as this one and many others. Like I said my musical heart belongs to Doo wop and Accapella first but there's room in there for some nice relaxing soothing music like this one. THis one is a gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Native American-inspired Groove Music, July 31, 2001
By
Guardian of the Zen Sea "Indigo" (Looking after the sun and surf) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ancient Voices (Audio CD)
This first release by Ah Nee Mah is a fresh-sounding take on Native American-inspired, trance-groove, spiritual music. I know that sounds like a strange mixture, but the music is not easy to describe because it is quite distinctive. If you are familiar with "Sacred Spirit 1" and/or Soulfood, then this will give you an indication of what this music is like. If not, then the best way to describe it would be to say that it is a combination of Native American singing, talking and chanting combined with tradtional acoustic instrumentation enhanced with subtle electronic samplings. The feel of some of the tunes is fairly traditional (track 1), while others are more groove oriented (track 7). Listen to track one to give you a feel for the rich mix on this music. Also try Ah Nee Mah's second CD, "Spirit of the Canyon".

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Song is Good, December 3, 2008
This review is from: Ancient Voices (Audio CD)
The more I listen to this music the more I like it. I notice something new every time. It would make a great soundtrack to a movie. Every song is unique and worth listening to. I listen to the whole CD straight through most of the time. If you want music that is relaxing, captivating, and downright amazing then Ancient Voices is for you.

I choose carefully before I purchase any CD, and this is one I'm glad to own. Not all the songs on it are memorable, but the others more than make up for the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars My absolute favorite NA album, November 2, 2010

This review is from: Ancient Voices (MP3 Download)
An acquaintance gave me a copy of this album years ago as a gift, and it quickly became a favorite! As a flute player myself, I really enjoy hearing the work of other artists, and this album is a step above the rest. I love the combinations of instruments, rhythms, and of course, the soothing, rich notes of the Native American flute. When I lost CD in a move, I was heartbroken. I can't tell you how happy I was to find it here, available for download and instant listening pleasure! It remains a favorite!
