About the Author

Max Lucado's numerous bestsellers include And the Angels Were Silent, God Came Near, No Wonder They Call Him the Savior, Six Hours One Friday, and The Gift for All People. He is pastor of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. Max and his wife, Denalyn, are the parents of three daughters, Jenna, Andrea, and Sara. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

In just under two decades of writing, Max Lucado has accomplished more than most writers hope for in a lifetime. Most of his books have appeared on one or more best seller lists, including those published by the "New York Times," "USA Today," "Publishers Weekly," and the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). Aside from hardcover books, Lucado's writings have also been published as children's books, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, music CDs, mass paperback booklets, apparel, giftware, bookmarks, calendars, study Bibles, workbooks, curricula, and plush products. In spring 2003, Hallmark/Dayspring Cards launched a new gift card line featuring excerpts from Lucado's writings--and has already sold more than one million cards.

All this success has drawn more than a little attention to a previously low-profile Texas author and minister. Lucado has been featured in a wide range of media, including "USA Today," "Larry King Live," and "NBC Nightly News." He has spoken at the National Prayer Breakfast before the President of the United States. He has traveled with internationally renowned musicians as a special speaker on their music tours, such as the highly successful "Come Together & Worship Tour" (sponsored by Chevrolet) with Grammy Award-winning artists Michael W. Smith and Third Day.

Journey to the Top
Lucado was born in 1955 in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, the youngest of four children. His father was an Exxon oil field mechanic who, Lucado remembers, always smelled of grease cleaner. "It makes it easy for me to see a God who is loving and kind--because my dad was," he says. His mother was a nurse who grew up working in the cotton fields.

Lucado went through a period of rebellion against his parents' values and their God during his teens and into college. But it wasn't long before he found himself drawn back to his roots, back to God. He married, spent time serving as a missionary in Brazil, and returned to the States, where he began working as a church minister and writing on the side.

Secret to Success
From all accounts, Max Lucado is not a man consumed by sales, awards, and achievements. He often turns down media interviews since they impede on family and ministry commitments. He spends the bulk of his week serving as senior minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. And he is truly surprised by his own success--more impressed by his one-in-a-million wife and three amazing daughters than by his successful writing career.

Rev. Lucado speaks volumes from the pages of this powerful work in a manner that transcends any denominational differences between Max and his readers. Through vivid illustration after vivid illustration he guides us through the final days of the Savior giving Christ the human touch that some may even fear to teach or to ponder. Even though the title is accurate that the angels were silent, their silence has allowed the echoes of the thunderous ovation of love heard as the nails were driven at Golgotha for each of us. My only drawback is that the book is so hard to put down, that you finish it in just a couple of days and find yourself disappointed wanting more. But, then again every Lucado book I have read does the same thing!

I am writing this because I want others to know His healing touch. This book gave me a diffrent angle to look Jesus' final week and how what He did and said tell us the message He was sent to bring. Max Lucado knows what he is saying and how to explain it so that we who are not theologens can read and understand and weep with that knowledge. Please read this book, because we all need that insight.

In his always thought provoking style, Max Lucado once again helps the reader have an encounter with the Almighty. He brings to life the final week of Jesus in a fresh, unique way that causes the reader's heart to break, mend, and break again. The timeless Truths of Jesus aren't embellished, because they do not require embellishment.Instead, they are told in ways that nearly everyone can relate to, but Lucado still manages to help the reader hold on to that ethereal feeling of a "one on one" encounter with the Author of the universe. A Must Read!

As this book presents concrete examples of how one can live a Christian life, I have come to find it more disturbing than ever how young individuals have come to regard Christianity as obsolete in their search for spirituality. Perhaps they have been exposed to legalistic dogmas of shoulds and should nots and have come to think that these are what Christianity is all about.
How sad. Lucado points out that Christianity is not a to-do or not-to-do list, it is a life of choosing to see the beauty in others and to treat people equally and fairly regardless of social or economic status.
It is especially profound the many ways he points out that for those who want to find Jesus, they must serve those in need and to live according to the teachings of the Apostles. He goes on to say that you will much more likely find God by offering your unconditional love and support to your fellow man than you will reading a horoscope or trying to summon a spirit.
Yes, perhaps a little outreach and a little love can do more wonders than any mystic or materialistic pursuit of the so-called good life.

Max Lucado brings out the beauty and everlasting Grace of God's Love for us giving His Son, Jesus Christ for humanity. On the final week of Jesus' life everything was set in place. If you had a short time left here on earth, and the end was near. What would you do? Would you set the most important matters into priority? If you knew what Jesus did, then remember these final days of His Life. He turned it over to the higher authority to sacrifice His own life so that you could Live-Eternally.

According to Matt. 20:28, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give His Life as a ransom for many people. Jesus set down the most important matters to be done before He went to the Cross. Those were His priorities. All the courage He set out to fulfill His purpose with passion and power-and you were included. Jesus seized the opportunity to save you the trouble of all life's trials. All we have to do is have the faith that He done it. God will do what it takes to bring His children home. He set you free of yesterday's guilt, fears, tomorrow's grave. The greatest miracle that God performed was the beauty of the Cross. The story continues to what God did to win your heart in Lucado's 'He Chose the Nails.'

(Every chapter is supported by study guides and scripture notes for indepth study.) Lucado never fails to teach us all the gifts that God has waiting for us to treasure. God's blessed him richly with the gift of teaching. May he continue on the journey. GOD BLESS!

I so appercaited Max Lucado's "View" of what a Christain Life & Walk really entails... not church doctrine, but scripture based livng. Lucado stresses just how much we are loved by our Abba(Father). Knowing the John 3:16: God so loved the world... is not always enough to truly feel the extent that was gone too, so we are redeemed forever. No Legalism or church "rules" can surplant the TRUTH. I needed saving from my own self imposed "Pharisee"... the ways I felt I need to be & the path I just knew I needed to walk to be a "Good Little Christian" This marvelous book has helped put all this in it's rightful place & claim the truth.. Jesus nothing but... Blessed be, L<><
