Praise for And Life Comes Back

“I couldn’t put And Life Comes Back down. As Tricia Lott Williford shared the heartbreaking death of her husband, her words spoke with piercing clarity to my own wife-heart. Holding nothing back, Tricia carried me through the pain, straight to what I know to be true about God—his faithfulness, goodness, strength, and peace, even in the midst of horrific loss. Of all the books you read this year, you can’t miss this one! It’s a journey that will leave you changed forever.”
—Sherry Surratt, CEO and president, MOPS International

“Tricia Lott Williford’s book reminds us it often takes a thick darkness to make known the light. And Life Comes Back is a candle that will light your path.”
—Donald Miller, New York Times best-selling author of Blue Like Jazz

“Tricia Williford’s brave, exquisitely wrought book is an act of stunning generosity. It is a story of grief, yes, but also of how love, language, and work can give us back to ourselves, even after enormous loss, and can push us out of brutal darkness into the glorious, ordinary light of every day.”
—Marisa de los Santos, New York Times best-selling author of Belong to Me and Falling Together

“I read this book through the night, every word a singular step toward purity and grace. Tricia Lott Williford takes us to a place so tender in its loss and yet so full of life that we willingly go with her through the sorrow to the truth of what comes after the great darkness. And Life Comes Back is no magical thinking. It is a treasure for any who love ‘what death can touch.’ A stunning voice; her story and her sharing of it a unique and longed-for celebration of the human spirit.”
—Jane Kirkpatrick, award-winning author of Where Lilacs Still Bloom

“In the midst of devastating pain and the frailty of motherhood, Tricia narrates each scene with such poetic perfection about her own imperfection. Pages are woven with honesty, humor, doubt, and faith to reveal a woman’s unapologetic questioning of God, death, and grace. With bite-size lessons in friendship, marriage, and parenting, Tricia helps us capture the presence of God in both tragedy and in everyday dialogue.”
—Dave Smith, executive pastor, Willow Creek Community Church (Crystal Lake Campus)

“Tricia’s story is profound and at the same time so simple. It’s tragic and at the same time so universal. It’s a story of deep grief and deep healing. It’s a story of hope for those of us who have been in the ditch and who pray we’ll find life again. It’s a story for you and me. You won’t want to miss this one.”
—Allison Vesterfelt, author of Packing Light: Thoughts on Living Life with Less Baggage

More About the Author

Tricia Lott Williford's great loves are teaching, writing, and her two young sons, Tucker and Tyler. When her husband died unexpectedly and tragically at Christmastime, Tricia suddenly found herself to be a thirty-one-year-old widow with two preschoolers to raise on her own.

The blog she had been writing for several years became her lifeline as she wrote about loss, sadness, laughter through tears, daily challenges of raising little boys, the return of hope, and the spark of new dreams to come - and her readership grew dramatically and went worldwide. Tricia is a highly sought after speaker and teacher for events and retreats all over the country.

She collects books, words, and bracelets, prefers to have a solid supply of both Diet Pepsi and steaming coffee on hand at all times, and is quite particular about her choices of pens and technology. She loves playing games with the boys, does not so much love the mounds of dirty jeans and socks they seem to generate, and cannot for the life of her catch a ball.

I read this book in one setting and was absolutely spell-bound by Tricia's story. At moments I was in tears, other moments I was laughing out loud, but all throughout her honest and vulnerable telling of her story, I was encouraged and hopeful for how grief and tragedy can transform us in ways we could have never imagined. This is a hopeful story for any who have or are in the midst of experiencing loss. It's a great reminder that there is life on the other side of our grief.

Tricia Lott Williford uses her own heartbreaking story to witness to us all about God's healing grace. The book depicts her life with her loving husband and two small sons, chronicles his tragic death, and carries the reader to the depths of her ensuing depression. Through it all it is evident that Tricia was willing to trust in the Lord, place herself and her children in His care, make sense of their new life through scripture, and write it all down to share with her readers. This book is one woman's beautifully written testimony of her journey to deep sadness and back to hope for a new tomorrow. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has walked the road of grief, to those just embarking on the journey, and to anyone who wishes to be inspired by one woman's beautiful rise from tragic ashes. My new favorite author. I can't wait to see what she has for us next!

I was recommended this book and, to tell you the truth, I thought it was going to be on the sappy side, with an abundance of trite and canned phrases often found in these types of stories. But I took a chance on this unfamiliar author anyway. Was I ever surprised! The book left out neither the author's nor her husband's shortcomings and weaknesses, but at the same time it clearly portrayed a happy and sound relationship full of fun and enjoyment of life and their little family. The stages of grief and healing Tricia went through after Robb's death were heartrending and all too identifiable, as she struggled to cope with her loss while raising 2 young boys. Yet there were instances of droll humor and honest reflections about her faith sprinkled equally throughout. How did she do that? I don't know but it sure worked for me!

Every moment I spent reading this book felt like sacred time. Tricia Lott Williford pens out the words of her story with a gentle voice that is also filled with the raw emotions wrapped up in loss and grief. Her talent and passion for writing offer God's mercy poured out through her as His lavish love and healing. Hope is found in walking through the darkest days, admitting doubt, raging against the pain, and yet continually seeking God’s grace in the midst of it all. Tricia’s story is told with honesty, sass, intentionality and an obvious longing to vulnerably share her journey so that others may find hope in theirs.

"And Life Comes Back" details the journey of a young widow as she finds a way to continue living in spite of the terrible loss of her husband. Her story is gut-level honest. She writes more honestly of her life and journey than any book I've seen in this genre. Her honesty brings to my conscious mind feelings and thoughts I didn't even know I have...as I walk the same journey of coping with the loss of my husband. Tricia and I are in different decades of life, but the heart pain and loss, and the work to cope with it are hugely the same. I appreciate this book enormously...basically read it in one sitting last night after being so glad it was finally available! I heartily recommend this to anyone dealing with severe loss, but particularly those grieving the loss of a spouse. She managed to tell her story without being morbid and depressing...and truly leaving the reader with hope. Bravo!!

This book is beautifully written and will touch everyone in one way or another for we have all dealt with loss, disappointment, depression and/or pain. We've wrestled with God over those unanswered "whys" of life and I believe her story will touch your heart. Her vulnerability to sharing her heart is sure to bless you and help you see God in a fresh way. Read it in less than one day!

This book is amazing in that it speaks to anyone who has ever lost someone. It is full of God's love, but thankfully void of the repetitive platitudes people say when they don't know what to say. Fun and easy to read. And just when you think you have no tears left, she throws in a little laugh and some much needed fun. My favorite book this year!

I don't recall how I first came across Tricia's blog but I was hooked from the start. I wept as she described that protective wall of blue on that tragic day. This book does not disappoint as she shares her story of love, loss, faith and hope. The transparency in her journey is both captivating and beautifully uncomfortable. Although I have never mourned the death of a spouse, I have watched my mother grieve first my father and then my stepfather almost 20 years later. I wish I had Tricia's book to give her as a light of hope in those very dark times. Read this book. Tricia's is a story that should be shared.
