That is the question you will be asking yourself over and over again as you listen to the multi-talented sounds of No Motiv. The band creates a smooth landscape of 12 songs that can be fast, slow, emotional, heavy, catchy, and just all out sweet sounding the whole time. I only wish bands like this could get popular without having to change their style. There are so many good,"better than the trash on the radio" songs on here it's not funny. For instance "The Waiting Hurt" is perhaps the best punk song I have heard during this first half of the year 2000. Even though you shouldn't need much more explanation of how good these guys are. If you wanna get a good idea of what they sound like.....it's like a not as hard Craig's Brother with a Midtown/Get Up Kids/Jimmy Eat World twist. Like I said very smooth tunes pick this one up at all costs. Killer tracks are- "The Waiting Hurt," "Stay," "Somewhere," and "Empty."

I'm still amazed by the songwriting. I cant' wait to hear their next album. If you get a chance, check them out live - you won't be disappointed. And if you like No Motiv, be sure to look out for another great Oxnard band, the Whereabouts.

always on the move and never dissapointing. in this new release they touched an indie rock/emo base and branched off their new school/hardcore roots they once followed. if your a diehard no motiv fan you will love it more than their first 7" releases. this album completely knocks of their previous album "cynical" off. this is one of the best new bands out from the west coast, and anyone who loves good music should give them a try. you will fall in love easily for songs like "sunday", "stay" "so what", "tribute", "nostalgia" and the whole album is just wonderfully produced and well made. congrats to the nardcore boys from oxnard, ca.

I first saw No Motiv at a show in SF at Club Cocodrie and was totally moved by their music, and then I saw them a few weeks later in Sonoma and bought their CD. Every time you listen to the album it gets better and better. This is one of the few CD's that I have that I can listen to without pressing the forward button; every sonbg on it rocks and has meaning. Did I mention they have a great stage performance? Well they do! The whole time they rock out and do jumps and jump in the audience and have fun. Every time I hear No Motiv the lyrics and the melody just get me inside.

Okay, I got into this band on their later release, Diagram for Healing, and really liked it. So, naturally I was enthusiastic to buy this CD. I popped it into my CD player and immediately thought: what happened to the vocals? The vocals were a lot higher and a little nasally compaired to their newer stuff. I was kind of disappointed and didn't really give it the chance it deserved. So, a few days later I listened again and was really open this time. The instrumentation was fantastic! I still think the vocals could be better, but they still sound good because Jeremy's great at singing. I really like the emotional, dark lyrics. You should buy, but I might suggest listening to Diagram For Healing first, it's easier to listen to. Oh yeah, I saw one review that ended with "Listen to Rufio, also" or something like that. These two bands can't even be compared. Rufio has a horrible New Found Glory style vocalist and really aren't that good. Everyone's talked about how great No Motiv is in show, I'm seeing them in a week!

I'm always talking about punk and emo and than genre of bands with my friends and every now and then No Motiv comes up in a conversation... I didn't think anything of them until they let me borrow their CD... I swear after I heard it and kept it for about a month I couldn't keep from listening to it! The music just runs together perfectly, they shift their style between songs fast to slow, hard to soft... but only enough to slowly grab your attention... after a couple of songs you're already humming along and hooked on it! I'd compare them with other bands, but these guys are one on their own! If you're still not convinced just listen to the samples... take your own word for it!

This is by far the greatest CD purchase I've ever made. It's one of the few CDs I can listen to all the way through without skipping tracks. It's insane that bands like Blink-182 can be famous while there's bands like No Motiv who don't recieve an umpteenth of the recognition and respect they deserve. The musicianship is otherworldly, the songwriting is heartwrenching, and the vocals are deep and emotional. Songs like "Stay", "The Waiting Hurt" and "Empty" almost reduce me to tears, and they never get old. Even the heavier songs like "So What" are an emotional rollercoaster ride. And the Sadness Prevails is one purchase you won't regret.
