Biography

In May 2011, Foxygen's Sam France and Jonathan Rado nervously handed off a CD-R of their homemade mini-opus Take the Kids Off Broadway to producer and visionary Richard Swift after his performance in a Lower East Side club. The duo, who had just mixed and burned the disc that very night, had been devotees of Swift's outsider-pop oeuvre since high school, when they first began recording ... Editorial Reviews

Foxygen have joined Star Power.
It is a punk band, and you can be in it, too.
Star Power is the radio station that you can hear only if you believe.
We're all stars of the scene.

Foxygen…And Star Power is the 2014 double album from Foxygen, a CINEMATIC AUDITORY ADVENTURE for the speedy freaks, skull krunchers, abductees, and misfits...Made by Foxygen at Dream Star Studios in their Secret Haunted House with the UFOs flying around in the sky.

A gaggle of guest stars. Roman-numeraled musical suites. Vocals recorded on a shoddy tape machine at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Chateau Marmont. A svelte 82-minute run time of psych-ward folk, cartoon fantasia, songs that morph into each other, weaving in and out of the head like UFO radio transmission skullkrush music. ADHD star power underground revolution. Soft-rock indulgences, D&D doomrock and paranoid bathroom rompers. Process is the point. A kaleidoscoping view. Blasphemy even the gods smile one. Rock and roll for the skull...*

*From Patty Smith's 1973 CREEM review of Todd Rundgren's A Wizard, A True Star. The section concludes "Todd Rundgren is preparing us for a generation of frenzied children who will dream in animation."

I bought this cd with high hopes that it would be like their last album "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic" which I absolutely can not get enough of.
After reading a few reviews, I got a little worried that this might not be the same Foxygen that I had come to love--(which it wasn't) but even though these guys took a different turn...I am hooked again. One listen is all it took to know that I would be listening to this one just as much.

It is definitely different from their last effort & at times a little crazy & erratic which may turn some people away. Of course if you are looking into this kind of music then like myself, this is the kind of craziness you like anyway...right?

So don't hesitate, buy this album now!
I had to order it through Amazon because sadly enough, on the first day of release I went to multiple stores excited to pick up this album and not one place carried it. I am looking forward to many future releases from these guys.

This album is an unoriginal wasteland of junk rock. It seems Foxygen does not have the balls or writing or playing skills to ever put out a solid record, just juvenile junk that should have ended up canned. The only few moments on this impossible to get through waste of time are the soft harmonic few songs that are lifted right out of classic Todd Rundgren songs from the early seventies. Even with those magical Rundgren chords Foxygen still can't even complete a thought yet alone a song. Goodbye Foxgen. I bought em all but this will be my last. Go back and finish your homework.

Definitely a candidate for album of the year. Great rock opera, double LP, which could have been released in 1972 and been a hit! Some songs are more pop, others more punk, but this is one of those albums you listen to as a whole collective piece. Foxygen is a great young band, will be spinning this record for a while.

The album is fantastic. The first disc is packed with catchy 70s sounding pop/ soft rock while the second disc is like an avant garde garage rock show. It's a bit different than their previous album, but still very satisfying. Foxygen's might rip off their songs from classic rock bands, but it works. You can hear hints of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, ELO, Black Sabbath, and many more throughout the album. '...And Star Power' also has some very satisfying guests on a few of the tracks. I've been listening to the album on repeat all week.

I am amazed at how much I love this album after listening to it a few times. At first pass I was left indifferent. My first exposure to Foxygen was “We are the 21st century…” and when hearing this album I was left on the fence. I then heard a song from “Take the Kids off Broadway” and fell in love with Foxygen. After 3 days of listening to the older album I listened to Star Power again. Now I am blown away!!!! I found it exciting that Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal makes appearance in this album (among other fantastic guests). This is a must listen. It truly partners well with Of Montreal’s “Lousy with Sylvianbriar”. AMAZINGLY deep music, that takes some digesting, though easily palatable.
