More About the Author

I wrote this book using voice recognition software, as I am no longer able to use my hands or legs. I am what medical experts call "a high functioning paraplegic." I'll take that as a compliment. I have enlisted the brain of my wife Melody Rogers to help me keep my stories straight.

This book came to be because I spoke into a microphone, but it's not the type of microphone I used at radio stations. It's a microphone you use when speaking into a software program that translates voice commands into text. Who'd-a thunk it? In December, 2003 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, so this book was first typed by voice command.

Not long ago, people around Los Angeles often recognized me. I was on the radio, on a rocking, ground-breaking station that got a lot of attention. And people all over the world always recognized Melody Rogers. She was on television, and played the mother of heartthrob, Zach, on NBC's "Saved by the Bell," which became an international hit. She also won four Emmys co-hosting the CBS television show, "2 On The Town."

Even I have to agree, all modesty aside, that we were quite the couple. This book shares our story in life thus far.

Patrick, Paraquat, Kelley's wit is on display is this very heartfelt story. We all have issues and problems in life we have to deal with. Patrick was dealt a very serious one in MS and the way he is handling it is an inspiration. If you were a fan of Paraquat"s from his radio days you know his outrageous sense of humor. Pat may have lost his ability to do many physical things, but he has not lost his sense of humor, thank God for that! As a former colleague I not only admire his ability to be one of the great radio personalities, but a terrific author too. A great story teller, is a great story teller regardless of the medium and Pat shows his abilities on the page. If you are a former fan from KMET or simply enjoy an amazing story of triumph of the human spirit, you will find "And There Will Always Be Termites" a wonderful book to read.

Yes, I may have hired Patrick Paraquat Kelley at KMET but everything else was his own doing -- pedal to the metal insanity the likes of which were never heard before and likely never to be heard again on the airwaves.

Pat, Thank you to for sharing your personal trials and tribulations. All who read this should profit from your life experience. Great stories (and lessons throughout). My favorite? Caw.

I look forward to your sequel. Until then ... Whooya to ya!

If you remember "Paraquat" Pat Kelley from FM stations like LA's great KMET, you'll recognize his smart, down-to-earth wit. If you don't, you'll still love his story.

Life has its ups and downs. Pat's book helps you realize that, throughout, there's always hope. And some laughs, too.

I know of few people who are as full of life, love and optimism as Pat and Melody. Despite Pat's diagnosis, he continues to have a wicked sense of humor and it shines through in this book. Pat is never afraid to speak his mind and to put things in perspective- an attitude that really enriches "And There Will Always Be Termites." Even in relating the story of his illness, Pat manages to do it with a wink and a smile and leaves the reader laughing and crying at the same time. Anyone who has ever had a seemingly insurmountable obstacle to conquer (probably everyone in the world) and is wondering how to do it, needs to read this book.

This book features a real life beautiful couple's love story, followed quickly by fading careers, followed by debilitating health challenges. You wouldn't think the outcome would be uplifting, but it is! Pat and Melody, the couple in this book, find much to be grateful for, they share many lessons they've learned (and are still learning.) Their love and support for each other make them seem like the kind of people I'd like to live next door to, have a cup of coffee with - and root for!

Pat and Melody, two very amazing broadcasters got a terrible break when Pat was told he had MS. This book is a story about their courage and how they have kept their lives from falling apart under such pressure. While we learn about the trials and tribulations of their careers in broadcasting, we get a termites view of their adventures in real estate. These two have definitely made chicken salad out of you know what using their resilient natures, Pat's wacky sense of humor and Melody's steadfast, spiritual belief that all will turn out in the end. This is a journey of love and devotion.

i truly urge you to read this wonderful book by two of the bravest, smartest, funniest, best people my wife pat and i have ever known.

in a world of trumped up fictional heros, here is a truly inspiring story of the real thing.

we have known pat and melody for over 20 years. we played golf when he was a scratch handicap and a black belt in karate. she was the queen of l.a television hosting cbs' "two on the town" every night at 7:30. traveling the world and hanging with the biggest stars. now he's in a wheel chair and we watch golf on tv together while melody bravely cares for him and eeks out a living in the disgusting, backhanded , shady world of selling real estate in los angeles.

it would be too much for most of us, but their courage, humor and love of life and each other sustains them. the stories from pat's starring days in la. and n.y fm radio, during it's heyday on kmet and wnew where as "paraquat" kelly he was an iconic star are hysterical and offer great insight into the coolest rock scene of the coolest time in the explosion of fm rock, melody's tales of broadway, big time t.v. hosting and now her difficult but inspiring life will make you laugh, cry and truly inspire you to new heights in your own life.

this is a blessing of a book as their continuing friendship is a blessing to pat, me and all their many friends.

A most fun & enjoying romp through Pat and Melody's world of Hollywood, radio-sports- & "The Adventures of Real Estate" - sharing their lives from the beginning to now. Most entertaining and amusing; sometimes a little sad but whose life doesn't have those moments. -Some great photos too. We loved it and highly recommend it. A great read on eBooks; put it on your iPad and there you go! -Connie & Al
