Product Description

The Anderson Metals reducing hex nipple pipe fitting is made of brass and has male National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connections. This reducing hex nipple fitting has one end smaller than the other for connecting two threaded pipes with different diameters, and it has a hexagonal head for an increased bearing surface when adjusting the fitting with a wrench. It has male NPT threads for connecting to female threaded pipes, creating a tighter seal than straight threads. This fitting is made of brass for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability. Brass can be connected to copper, brass, plastic, aluminum, and welded steel. The operating temperatures for this fitting range from -53 to 121 degrees C (-65 to 250 degrees F). This fitting meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) B584 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)/American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B16 specifications for quality assurance.

Pipe fittings are components used for connecting, terminating, controlling flow, and changing the direction of piping in many different industries. When purchasing pipe fittings, consider the application, as this will affect material type, shape, size, and required durability. Fittings are available threaded or unthreaded, in many shapes, styles, sizes, and schedules (pipe wall thickness).

Anderson Metals manufactures brass fittings, valves, and pipe nipples. The company, founded in 1951, is headquartered in Kansas City, MO.

Good quality brass reducer. Used it to adapt a half-inch natural gas line to a 3/8" quick-disconnect socket fitting. It is made of brass.

This product is fine. It just didn't do what I wanted. I was looking for an adapter to make a clawfoot tub tap-set fit to a standard hand-held shower hose. I needed 1/2 to 3/8 pipe thread. This has the correct thread, but the inside of the wide end doesn't fit well on the tap-set...it needs a taper to fit the rubber washer properly. I finally found what I needed: LASCO 08-2117 Add a Shower Adapter with 3/8-Inch Male Pipe Thread to 1/2-Inch Male Pipe Thread

I got these reducing nipples to go from a 3/8" ball valve to 1/2" plumbing fixtures and hoses, and they worked perfectly. You don't need to "pre-thread" them like other brands as they are smooth and very well made. I used Teflon tape and they attached smoothly and sealed up nicely. They are 1 1/4" long with a 7/8" hex. I highly recommend this brass fitting for all your projects.

What do you say about a fitting other than it was the right size and the brass fitting was well constructed.

I used several of these in compressed air project. I used thread seal tape and I broke 50% of these on 1/4" side of the hex coupler. I would then use pipe extractor to remove the broken piece before proceeding with the connection. I found one from another vendor that was thicker brass and longer which have not twisted off so easily. I have used many Anderson Metals brass pipe fitting and this is the most fragile one. So beware when tightening the connection with these.

My fault that I ordered this and it was the wrong part. Since the part appeared to be high quality I just decided to keep it with a bunch of other random plumbing fixtures/items in case I need it in the future.
