Product Description

Size: 10-Inch

Amazon.com

No pie ever baked has cooked uniformly around the edges, so bakers everywhere reach for the aluminum foil to place little shields around the edges to keep them from burning. If you're like me, your foil falls off, or is too thick in some places and too thin in others, causing uneven browning. This pie crust shield effortlessly saves the day. Just place the shield over the pie before you slip it in the oven and leave it on the whole time--that's it. The aluminum ring slips right over frozen or homemade pies that are from 9-1/2 to 10 inches in diameter and encourages them to rise in the middle, reducing spillage from the sides. Durable and reusable, it's also dishwasher-safe. --Doree Armstrong

3.0 out of 5 stars Wrong size: a 10-inch shield fits a 9-inch pie plate October 5, 2006
Size Name:10-Inch|Amazon Verified Purchase
My Pyrex pie plates are larger than standard. They're 10" pie plates instead of the usual 9" plates. So I figured that a 10" pie crust shield was what I needed: 10" plate, 10" shield, right?

Wrong. This 10" shield between one-half and one inch too small in diameter to fit what's called a 10" pie plate -- which I learned, after getting out a ruler, is actually 11 inches from outer edge to outer edge. A 10" pie plate apparently has an *interior* measurement of 10 inches, and if the crust goes up onto the edge, then the crust ends up being more than 10" across.

So I'm going to keep looking... hoping... trying to find a substitute for making little tents with aluminum whenever I put a pie in the oven. Wish me luck: I think I'm going to need it.

Meanwhile, it will cost as much in return shipping as I paid for this pie shield, so I'm going to see if one of the neighbors wants it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, needs better material April 23, 2007
Size Name:10-Inch
I bought these because I was sick of creating foil shields on the pies I bake. I love that these slip perfectly on and off. However, I've found that since they're made of metal or aluminum, they actually conduct heat and cause the crust of the pie to darken faster than the center--which is exactly what I DIDN'T want it to do. That said, I have to admit that while the edges of my pies look darker than the rest, it hasn't come out burnt as it would if I were to bake the pie without any sort of shield.

I'm planning on buying another brand's--something made from silicone instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Anderson's Pie Crust Shield saves the day! June 24, 2000
Size Name:10-Inch
I LOVE this product! I have been waiting all week for it to arrive, and it finally did today! I baked my pie (I've been anticipating this moment for days), and when it came out of the oven, there were no spills to clean up! And my crust, lets just say it was a perfect golden brown, light and flaky, mmmmmmm.......

No more messing with aluminum foil. Just placed the shield over your pie shell. Crust comes out perfect. It's also easy to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like our old one.
When my wife bakes pies she always bakes 2. We have only had one ring, and used foil for the other pie. Every time she bakes she wished she had another ring. Now we do. NIce

5.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY EDGES
I love to bake pies, but hate putting the foil around the edges and it was terrible tyring to check the edges and replace the foil. Now my pies turn out perfect and nicely brown.

1.0 out of 5 stars no.
This pie crust protector, along with the smaller one I ordered did not fit either of my pie plates. Bummer, I will continue to use aluminum foil.
