I was very disappointed with the Pie Shield. The edge of my pie still came out way, way too dark. If there is a product out there that keeps the edges of a pie from almost burning I haven't found it yet. I would return it, but not worth the effort.

I was tired of the hassle of putting foil strips over my pie edges to keep them from getting too dark. I tried the lightweight foil guards--they worked ok, but got bent up when I stored them.
I read the reviews on silicone pie guards and people seemed to like them, the only problem being that they might be a bit small for the larger piepans. I ordered 4 of the 10 inch Anderson Pie shields. I got free shipping and the deal was-buy 4 get one free. They worked great! They also fit my large glass Pyrex pie dishes perfectly. I plan to order more as gifts for my pie baking friends and family.

By the way, I searched everywhere locally to find silicone pie guards and came up empty-handed. I ended up getting a great deal from Amazon, and they arrived in just a few days.

Other reviewers noted that pie shield should be one inch wider in diameter than the pie pan, so I ordered the 10 inch size rather than the 9 inch and it works good. My pie pans also have medal handles so I cut slits in the pie shield for each handle to accommodate.

I bought this for this year's Thanksgiving. Used it on my pie's with a lot of success. Kept them from getting dark just as it said it would. Love it! Now, I need to get a couple more for multiple bakings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange sizing, August 31, 2011

Like other reviewers, the first thing I discovered is that this crust does NOT fit over a 10-inch pan. However, I'd gotten it for free via the 4 for 3 deals, so I gave it a try. I set it on top of my crust and threw it in the oven and when I peeked in later, I found that it had managed to drop itself properly over the crust and fit just right. I guess the silicone softens up a bit in the oven. My pie was perfect in the end, though when I started I didn't think it had a chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars pie crust shield, October 3, 2010

This product works great and is far easier to use than anything else I have tried. The inside diameter of the ring is 7-5/8 in and the outside diameter is 10-1/2 in. Measure your pie pans carefully so you are sure it covers them completely. There is a lip around the outer edge which is 10in inside the lip. If your baking dish has handles on the edge this may not fit over the handles but just turn the shield upside down and it works great. Storage is not a problem I usually keep them in the cupboard on top of my pie plates. If I find a larger version I will certainly buy another. I have at least 1 pie tin which is too large for the 10 in shield.

Very happy to have purchased this pie shield. It works perfectly and is easy to clean. Buy the 10" size for standard 9" pie pans/dishes and you will really thank yourself.

Although I have only used once, I found this product held up well in dishwasher, as well as kept my pie from burning. I had to cook it way longer than usual, since I put all the filling in one crust, not two, as I usually do. And, even with that, it was perfectly done, due to the shield. I am so glad I ordered the larger size, as I was using a large pyrex dish and it fit perfectly.

Wish I had a picture of the pecan pies I made for Thanksgiving. Not only were they perfect tasty, they had PERFECT crusts. The pie shield worked superbly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Product is almost as stated, September 25, 2011
This review is from: Mrs. Anderson's Baking 10-inch Silicone Pie Crust Shield (Kitchen)
This item has worked for me well, but not 100%. I use it with my Emile Henry 9-Inch Pie Dish, Azure Blue. Although the pie dish is 9" and this shield states that it fits up to a 10" pie plate, this shield doesn't quite fit my dish. The dish does have a nice decorative edge though. I used to turn the shield upside down and it worked just fine (really!). Now I have become lazy and just prop it up onto the edge of the pie plate (although it will not lay past its edge). My crusts still don't burn and I leave the shield on the entire baking time. It may help to know that I have entirely used this shield and my pie plate baking my Marie Callendar's Chicken Pot Pie recipe, which I bake quite often. That is a 40 minute baking time. For longer baking requirements. I am not sure what would happen to the edges. All I know is that my pie edges look equally as brown as the middle of the pie.

FYI: I have also used the Norpro Silicone Pie Crust Shield with my other Emile Henry 9" pie plate and it fits no better or worse and I get exactly the same results.
