5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality clippers!!
I was a little concerned when I ordered these as they are much less expensive than many of the other clippers I had been looking at. The clippers seem to be of good quality. They are heavy and substantial-feeling, indicating to me there's a good sized motor inside powering them. The blade of the clippers is easily adjustable so you can decide how close you want them to...

1.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for!
These clippers did work really well, but they got so hot they were burning my hand! This clipper got so hot that it melted a portion of the casing, right behind that blue sticker thing. I could not believe how hot these got.... After reading the good reviews and the bad, I still went ahead and bought these. They are a good price, but you do get what you pay for!! Hope...

I was a little concerned when I ordered these as they are much less expensive than many of the other clippers I had been looking at. The clippers seem to be of good quality. They are heavy and substantial-feeling, indicating to me there's a good sized motor inside powering them. The blade of the clippers is easily adjustable so you can decide how close you want them to trim, and there are also clipper combs which allow you to cut to a preset length of hair. I haven't used the combs. The set comes with a nice little black plastic box for storage. Also included are trimming scissors (no sharp end, perfect for pets), oil to lubricate the trimmers, and a DVD. I didn't watch the DVD.

We used these clippers on our Ragdoll (that's a breed) cat to remove mats from his fur where he doesn't seem to be able to reach. Between the scissors and the clippers, we were able to take care of him over a few sessions and he's in good shape. The noise of the clipper is a typical "hum" like you'd hear at a grooming salon... when you first turn them on there's a bit of a loud click as the motor engages so I would turn them on, then go get our cat so he wouldn't be frightened by the click.

These appear to be of good quality and are a good value from what I saw shopping around. Hope this helps!

4.0 out of 5 stars Save money on grooming!, January 30, 2010

I too, read the reviews before buying. I read the instructions and watched the DVD before I even grabbed my dog. I have a Lhasa Apso who gets very matted, and I was tired of paying 50 bucks every few months to have her groomed. These clippers work very well. They have already paid for themselves. She did get a little scared at the initial clack when I turned them on, but was an angel while I was grooming her. Keep the clippers oiled, calibrate them before use, groom in the direction of the hair growth, and you shouldn't have any problems. She may not look as good as she does when she gets back from the groomer, but with practice I'm sure she'll look better and better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance for the price, July 11, 2009

My golden retriever suffers from hot spots every summer so I got this clipper to shave around the infected area to speed healing. The clipper worked great on his fur and I was able to shave him with ease. The storage case is great to keep all the components together. The clipper is quiet except for the initial clack when you turn them on, as noted by another reviewer. Overall, these do exactly what I wanted with a great price.

Highly recommended. I bought this product to keep my cross poodle dog trimmed. He has typical poodle curls for fur - that had become long and matted in places. I usually use scissors to trim him but it was too time consuming. I had been looking at different clippers for a while but they all seemed out of my price range, except the Andis. I am very happy with my purchase, has a good heavy feel and the starting 'clatter' is so brief, the poodle barely raised a brow! I love the plastic storage box, no more trying to stuff all the accessories back into a torn box after use. The instructions were simple to understand and the product was eay to use. I didn't watch the DVD.

I have done my research on all the things I buy online, prior to purchasing of course. This product was what best suited me. I have an older cat who is a Ragdoll, just like the lady in the other review! He doesn't groom himself quite like he used to, and has been getting mats in his fur. Some are big and some are small. Initially I would just cut them out but then it made him look so pathetic, I thought for surely there was something else I can do. Simba is the coolest cat so if your cat is not laid back like mine, I wouldn't recommend something like this as it can traumatize your animal. Take them to a professional groomer or vet office. For Simba, I give him wet food on a plate and face him the opposite way so he cannot see me and my boyfriend sits in front of him just to keep an eye on him and lets me know how much food he has left so I know how much time I have to trim him up! Definitely do not do it all in one sitting. Give them time to become acclimated to the sound. I made sure I watched the DVD before using and it only shows how to groom dogs, not cats. It still gives good pointers though like to go with the way the hair is growing, etc. Definitely watch it! Also, make sure you use the oil that's provided and run along blade and on sides. Then turn it on just to let the blades become lubricated.Once you have done that you are ready to go!Clean with the little brush after every use. Comes with all sizes of attachment and a case. Fantastic product and even better price!

4.0 out of 5 stars These clippers pretty much do it for ME!, January 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Andis 18455 14-Piece Pet Clipper Kit with DVD (Misc.)
Well these clippers do the job for clippin my mini-schnauzer. Although they get pretty dog-gone hot the first use hopefully they will begin to cool down over time and use. But quite and comfortable, my dog does not flight or flinch from them. The head of the clippers are heavy for my hands but I have a little arthritis in them, but for the money I'll save from grooming costs this year, these clippers are the bomb. The coat on my mini is very soft after bathing, this might make things so easy for these clippers. If she had the slightly coarse hair as a true mini-schnauzer has then they might even work harder, get a little hotter. But, there is nothing like a can of cool off spray to keep things going at a steady pace for you and your animal.

I bought these clippers to use on my cat. She had some mats and I learned it was safer to use clippers to remove them rather than scissors. Unfortunately, these clippers would not trim through any of my cat's fur...matted or not. It was very frustrating and I ended up sending them back for a refund. The DVD that came with it showed them being used on dogs and maybe they work better on them. In any case, I am afraid I cannot recommend them.

I have a year old Schnauzer and her hair feels soft. But, I guess its too much for these clippers. I oiled like crazy but no matter how many times I ran the clipper over her back, it wouldn't clip all the hairs. So after 20 or so swipes over the same area, I decided to just be happy with a thinning effect. When she gets back from the groomer, her hair is all the same length, something these clippers aren't able to do.

I bought this item to groom my cat. He's a long haired cat and those vet/grooming visits can get very pricey. The clippers worked great. Nemo the cat didn't seem to mind them so much and was actually purring along w/the vibration of the clippers. The clipper noise is the same as other clippers. Let's just hope they last :)
