5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clipper
I am a groomer of over 15 years and love Andis products. This clipper however, offers a quiet smooth cut and handling for getting in close to dogs (and cats!) even if they are nervous about having the clipper close to sensitive areas. I am very happy with it, and as always Andis products are great quality that lasts a very long time. I appreciate the new color of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I hoped
I have 2 poodle mixes that need grooming every six-eight weeks. Their regular groomer is currently sick, and since this clipper would pay for itself in 2 visits to the groomer, I thought I would try grooming them myself. They only get a very simple "puppy cut", basically all over one length, apart from a shorter cut around the private areas. As well as this clipper, I...

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to use professional animal clippers, even for a beginner, March 4, 2009

This review is from: Andis 27370 Super 2-Speed Professional Animal Clipper (Health and Beauty)
Andis 27370 Super 2 speeds Professional Animal Clippers are very easy to use even for a beginner. I got them because I bath my 2 little dogs all the time but never tried to clip them and 1 trip to the groomers for both my dogs paid for the clippers. Now I can trim, clip or shave and do whatever is needed for my dogs without having to make appointments, don't need to drive anywhere just plug in and clip away! The powerful 2 speeds made a huge difference in being able to go through my maltase's really thick hair very easy. The clippers are actually very quite and the sound does not bother the dogs. My dogs trust me so they both just went to sleep, had to have my hubby hold them up because they were so relaxed and calm. The groomers have always told me that my bichon is not very cooperative but she is the best when I clip her hair. You will really like these and it's purple too! It comes with 1 blade and oil too.

As well as this clipper, I bought a separate blade (a size 4FC), because the clipper only ships with a blade that gives a very short cut: fine for the private areas, but much too short for the head or body.

Today, I used the clipper for the first time. I was disappointed in its performance, for several reasons:

* The instructions and illustrations in the manual were very poor. (As is the website!)

* It took me ages to remove the blade that the clipper ships with, in order to install the blade I wanted to use for the body cut. One has to press a very flimsy toggle, and at the same time push/pull the blade. The instructions on how to do this were poor. There might be a knack to it, but for a new user, it was extremely frustrating and even painful to keep pressing the toggle while struggling to remove the hard-to-grip blade.

* The blade clogged with hair very rapidly, and stopped cutting effectively as a result. To make it cut properly, I had to use a blunt knife to push hair out of the blade every 5 min or so. As soon as I did this, it started cutting well again, but it was irritating to have to do this so frequently. I'm sure it would be simple to invent a tool that could be used to clear the hair quickly and more fully than my improvisation with the knife: the clipper should ship with such a tool.

* According to the instructions, one has to keep oiling the blade every so often during use, which probably contributes to the clogging mentioned above: bits of hair get caught by the oil, and form a sticky mat on the blade.

* One of my dogs was very spooked by the noise of the clipper. He has never had a problem at the groomer.

On the plus side:

* The two-speed feature was useful for the dog that I did manage to clip: I used the high speed for some very thick patches on her coat. She also didn't mind the noise.

* The blade didn't get extremely hot. Even after 20+ minutes of use (with pauses for oiling and clearing hair), it was just warm to the touch.

If I hadn't already used it for half an hour, I would seriously consider returning it. As it is, I will try reclipping the dog I managed to groom, but I will clip her in a month's time rather than waiting for the usual 6-8 weeks, in case it will be easier to clip her if her hair is shorter. My other dog will have to keep going to the professional groomer for now, because he is so scared of the noise of these clippers.

Cuts long thick hair on my Golden Retriever like a hot knife through soft butter. Does not bog down or clog up. Clipper balance is good , comfortable in the hand. The long cord is quite handy. The price is reasonable and worth every cent. This clipper will pay for itself after about 3 trimmings. I'm sure this clipper will last for several years.

5.0 out of 5 stars the most awesome clippers ever, October 30, 2010

I just got these clippers in the mail yesterday and was all set to spend hours shaving my two very matted standard poodles. 40 minutes per dog!!! Ears and everything. The blade got a bit hot for the 2nd dog, last part was her belly. The dogs were not scared by the noise but acted like they were getting a massage. I wish I had bought these 2 years ago. The blades cut like butter, very close to the skin shave. I had bought a Wahl 2 years ago and it took hours to do 1 dog. My daughter was laughing at how these clippers just zipped down their bodies. Best purchase I have made in years. dogs are happy as they can now sleep in the bed again! I love these clippers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Clipper, December 22, 2009

This clipper worked better than two others we tried. It is important to keep the blades clean. We have bought additional heads to help with desired hair length, the one that comes with the unit works best. Has nice safety features. Was worth the money and will pay for itself in not having to work around a groomers schedule.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Clipper for Cutting a Cat's Hair, July 6, 2009
This review is from: Andis 27370 Super 2-Speed Professional Animal Clipper (Health and Beauty)
The Andis 27370 Super 2 Speed Professional Animal Clipper works perfect for cutting my cat's thick long hair. The clippers cut through the thick hair with ease. I have tried other brands without success. The clipper came from Revival Animal Health and they gave excellent service. I thought my shipment was lost and they responded immediately. However the shipper delivered it to the wrong address.

I have used other cheaper clippers that would take me all day to do my 2 spaniels. Their hair mats badly behind ears and underneath. These worked great was done in 3 hours. Less stress on me and my dogs. For the price they are well worth it for me.

Performance rates this clipper at 5 stars, 3 stars for a bad motor, 5 stars for quick local warranty work. That takes to . . . well 4 stars? A great clipper at a great price. The new motor is working fine! I have two standard poodles, a large female and an average size male. The females coat in particular is very dense, this clipper has no problem with them. I recommend for first time users getting combs, it really makes your work look a lot better. Don't bother buying #40 or #50 blades unless you are showing, #30s' are just fine for even the closes of work.

Sending back due to the blade hinge breaking after 1 use. Ordering another & hoping it'll work. Andis said it is not a common problem. I was concerned if I reordered it'd happen again. They said it was a freak thing & should not. We'll see!!! This is replacing the Oster A5 Turbo that has been nothing but problems. Great when it does work but it seldom does. Had my Aussie almost done when it decided to stop cutting.
