5.0 out of 5 stars I'm luvin' my Andy's! August 26, 2010
By H. Word
Color Name:Silver
I'm a black guy, who loves to style a bald head. My wife say's it's sexy and as for me, it's easy to manage. Problem is, I like to save $40 a month, and do my own shaving. Thus, I've been thru probably ten clippers in the past 7 years. You know, the Walmart and Target brands, that sell for $20. Then they pack the box with the 15 different plastic guards, grease, and combs that you'll never use. What a waste.

Anyway, I bumped into a local barber, and he invited me to his shop, to test-drive a few set of clippers. I tried the Andis BGRC, and fell in love! When you handle the BGRC; you actually conclude three things:

1. they're not a pair of $20 Conair clippers.
2. they're professional grade!
3. this may very well be the last pair of clippers I have to buy!

Now, on to the shaving. What a thrill. When I first turned them on, I got a soft but strong hum, and they don't vibrate the hell out you, like the cheap brands. The BGRC's are smooth! Not noisy or annoying. Anyway, he continued to show me how the Andis interchangeable blade system works, and proceeded to hand me a #000 to try. What a thrill! I instantly fell in love with this trimmer. Lately, I've switched to the #00000 blade, but that's another review. Anyway, here's my take on the Andis BGRC Clipper:

PROS:
1. quality made - professional grade clippers (just ask your barber about Andis)
2. interchangeable blades (no more plastic guards) I also use to trim mustache.
3. cuts thru hair like a mad man with a straight razor!
4. zero maintenance! just oil the blades. (buy the Andis 7 and 1)
5. the 8' cord is thick and durable. plus the cord length is a plus!
6. the BGRC's can be converted to a cordless system. (check adapter pack)
7. quiet and smooth operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product! No regrets. May 20, 2007
Color Name:Black
Is it better than the $20 clipper that you bought at Wal-Mart? YES. It has a powerful motor, a great battery, and it charges in 1 hour. On a full charge, it cuts for about an hour. For me, that means several haircuts per charge (I'm not a barber, just a guy who shaves his head twice a week).

Do you "need" this clipper? Of course not. Spending $200+ on clippers is downright silly. Full disclosure: these clippers ROCK! I don't regret my purchase for a moment.

If you need some reasons to your purchase, here you go:

* It's CORDLESS. Cords suck. You already have a cordless phone, a cordless razor, and a cordless drill. Why not a cordless clipper?

* It looks and feels like a $200+ clipper. It's overpriced, but at least you won't feel like you have been ripped off.

* It has a replaceable battery. Rechargeable batteries fail over time. When this battery fails, you can buy a new one (only $65!!). The battery is Ni-CD, not NiMH or Li-Ion. It's an old technology, but a durable one. Same technology that powers many power tools.

* The blades are replaceable and interchangeable. Want to add a trimming blade? No problem. Switch blades in 20 seconds. No screwdriver required. I don't know why that's cool, but it is. For the record, I have never switched blades.

* You can use it with a cord. A really long cord. Cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's In The Box July 26, 2012
Color Name:Black|Amazon Verified Purchase
As of the date of this writing, Amazon's description leaves something to be desired. So I thought I would tell you exactly what's in the box...

Kit Includes:
Rechargeable Clipper (including battery pack)
CeramicEdge #000 blade
7 black plastic attachment combs, sizes as follows: 1/16", 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1"
Charging base
Storage Case
4 oz. bottle of clipper oil
Instructions/Owners Manual

What is NOT included is the electrical cord base that would replace the battery pack to make it a corded clipper rather than a rechargeable clipper. (Even though the corded base shows in one of the Amazon pictures!) That is an accessory that can be purchased separately, but it is NOT included in this kit.

Note also that only one blade comes in this kit, the #000. Other blades are available to be purchased separately. The combs that clip onto the blade are what determines the haircut length using the blade that's included.

So far, I like the clippers very much. They seem like they will last a long time. The charger has a discharge feature that you can use periodically to keep the battery pack from developing memory. It charges the battery relatively quickly. With the battery fully charged the clipper runs at a brisk pace and cuts very well.

The storage case holds everything nicely. (It's not like some storage cases where once it's opened, you can never quite seem to get everything back in.) The combs snap on and off easily and are clearly labeled for length.

I'm pleased with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy right, & buy once... February 5, 2012
By TheDude
Color Name:Black|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Andis 64850 is a great cordless clipper. I keep my hair buzzed extremely short, and I like to touch-up frequently to keep it looking 'just right'. I've had this clipper a couple weeks and have already used it for several trims... I'm extremely pleased.

From the first time you pick it up, the quality is obvious. For years I 'got by' on an inexpensive beard trimmer, using it mostly for facial hair, but later in its life, for shaving my head as well. It did the trick, but it had several drawbacks that most trimmers and clippers suffer from, especially cordless clippers... Short 'run time', slowing/degrading performance, plastic guards vs. real metal blades, hair gathering in the motor assembly, etc. Every time I looked around for nicer trimmer or top-notch clippers, they were pretty expensive, so I kept putting it off and putting it off. Finally my beard trimmer wouldn't finish a haircut anymore (even plugged-in!) and I thought back on what a piece of junk it had been as I looked around for a replacement, although it DID survive many years. It was time to buy something that would perform like pro equipment every time I reached for it for many years... I got the Andis 64850.

Always ready to go on its charging base, the Andis 64850 gives you pro results anytime you want them. No cord- no slowing down. No weak performance or 'bogging down' and grabbing a hair here and there- It just works exactly like it's supposed to. It takes very little maintenance, cuts extremely well and evenly, and is said to run a FULL HOUR on one charge. I haven't used it for that long yet, but I can tell you that this thing keeps on running like it's plugged into the wall, which was what I wanted. As to the review mentioning the battery, I DID get the supposedly newer NiMH model.
