Customer Reviews

The clippers worked great and cut through his thick fur like butter.
I liked the quietness of the clipper; easy to grip and hold; my dogs did not squirm as much, seemed more relaxed.
Linda Griffith
The blade does get hot while clipping, the spray helped to cool it down so we could continue in one session.

I went to grooming school well over 10yrs ago and started with a nice pair of Oster clippers. I had difficulty getting through thick coated dogs and switched to the Andis A2 model. The difference was night and day! I still have that original pair of Andis clippers for home use and use the newer model at a local shelter.
Some tips-
Blades will get hotter on the 2nd/faster setting (they are rubbing back and forth very quickly--they are going to get hot people--no matter what--any blades that move fast enough to slip smoothly through a thick dog's coat will have the same problem). The trick is to have at least 2 sets of blades and cooling spray. Remember to oil your blades and while grooming use the cooling spray--when they get too warm switch them out for the other blade and keep rotating. It's worth the money-it'll save you a lot of time and your dog some grief. Also--clean hair is MUCH easier for clippers to go through. Extra dirt and oils in the hair will slow you down a lot and make the clippers heat up much faster--so bath your dog (scrub down to the skin on those thick coated breeds) and then blow him/her dry or at least let thoroughly air dry. T-h-o-r-o-u-g-h-l-y dry.
Hope this helps!

I have two Golden Doodles. They have the thickest, fastest growing, and in general, most difficult to groom fur of any dog I've ever seen. I run this model Andis on high speed only and it does have the power to do the job. However, as others have mentioned, the blades heat up rather quickly. I use the cool spray frequently which helps. You just have to keep track of the temp at regular intervals by touching the blade on your own skin and, when necessary, spray it and let it cool for a minute or so. It gets to be a habit and isn't as much of a bother as it would at first seem. I guess you get use to just about anything. I would give the clippers 5 stars were it not for the heat problem since they are fairly quiet, powerful, and it's fast and easy to swap blades and clean. What I really need though are sheep shears!

I have a 60 lb labradoodle and a 12 lb toy poodle who need frequent grooming. Because my big dog is frightened of strangers, taking her to a groomer was too stressful for her. A trainer recomended these clippers as the best thing for me and she was right. I have been grooming both my dogs myself for two years with these clippers and am very pleased. They have actually paid for themselves.

This comes with 1 blade and clipper oil. I recomend if you have a large dog, you get two of each size blade you need, as the plate gets really hot. Also get the Cool Care Plus spray. This way, you take a blade off when it gets too hot, spray it and set it aside and use the other one. It seems expensive, but since one trip to the groomers with both dogs is at least $75 dollars, you will come out ahead in only a few uses.

Bought these clippers to cut my Golden Doodle - hair grows fast and needs cutting about every 2-3 months. Hair is like a Golden Retriever or Poodle, or combo of each. I've only used these a couple of times, but they worked great. Much better and faster than the cheaper clippers I had (used those about 3-4 times and the blades wore out and the cheaper unit was slow to cut). I've read much about the unit getting hot in your hand, but it only got warm when I used it, and I never had to put it down to let it cool (probably had them on for at least an hour each time - takes me a bit to cut my dog as I'm not a professional). Now I mainly let the clippers remain on the lower speed setting, but it was still plenty fast enough to cut the hair on my Golden Doodle with no hangs or skips or slowness (hair was 2-3 inches long at the time of the cut). I used the standard #10 ultraedge blade that comes with it, and also bought a #30 ceramic blade since customers said the blades get hot. They do get hot, but I used the clipper comb guards to keep the hair about 3/4 inch long, so the blades never touch my dog. And if you use clipper combs or guards, then you don't need to worry about all the different blade sizes, as the guards conrol the length of the hair cut (just like at the barber for guys). I also kept putting a little oil on the blades every so often (maybe 15 minutes?) as that was recommended to extend blade life and sharpness. And I did swap out the blades about every 15-30 minutes as that was also recommended in reviews and articles I read so they don't get too hot (so simple, takes seconds to swap the blades). Both blades worked great (didn't really notice a difference between the two in cutting speed or performance). Removed the clipper combs to trim around the paws and face area.

I did quite a bit of research before buying these and am very pleased with these clippers and would definitely recommend them.

I am a professional dog groomer. I bought these clippers 14 months ago to replace a slower pair of Andis clippers. I loved them until this past week when they started heating up - and I don't mean the blades folks, I mean the barrel where you hold them. After only a few minutes of trimming they got too hot to hold. I have spoken to other groomers who have also bought the Ultraedge and have had to replace them after only six months or so of use because they broke down. A powerful and quality groom right out of the box, comfortable to use initially, but for the money I would expect them to hold up better. I am back to using my slower ones until I can find a quality replacement.
