Embrace Schiff's Bach, Mozart and Schubert,
By "amazonavi" (KOBE, Hyogo. JAPAN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: András Schiff (Great Pianists of the Century series) - Bach / Mozart / Schubert (Audio CD)
It's been only two years since I came to know him at broadcasting on television featuring the life of Chopin. So it was surprising to read liner notes of this cd to find he is only 10 years older than I (born in 1953, in Budapest.) After winning international competitions in Moscow and Leeds etc., he appeared many countries including Japan (his wife Shiokawa is Japanese violinist). As I expected to listen his Schubert, it was a little disappointing to see the contents of cd, which includes mainly from Bach, but I was wrong. He showed me new Bach (two and three-part inventions). Although I love Murray Perahia's recent recording of "English Suites" (which is so perfect that no artists' performance can replace it, I think), his play is warm and I like it. (Oh, I didn't gave five star for this cd. That's because my strong recommendations are for his more challenging works. This cd is safe and fine for your collections or ... aperitif before his concert. But, you won't listen to this cd after his concert. His live performance is more poetic.)

Sublime expression, expressive lyricism!,
By Hiram Gomez Pardo (Valencia, Venezuela) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: András Schiff (Great Pianists of the Century series) - Bach / Mozart / Schubert (Audio CD)
Andras Schiff has achieved an enviable place among the great pianists of the world. His repertoire is zealously chosen. Take together, his profound intelligence, penetrating vision and the undeniable influence inherited from the master Sandor Vegh, are part of his personal qualities, ver hard to find in these days, where other priorities seem to prevail. It might be said he belongs to a missed musical tradition, where the sound was part of a language and the final product of a superior vision. If you want to enjoy and convince by yourself about Schiff's sound, please, be my guest. Totally recommended. |
