5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and rare music!, June 7, 2005
This review is from: André Campra: Motets a une voix avec la basse-continue (Audio CD)
What a lovely CD! Campra's sacred music should deserve more attention: only a few titles are readily available around and not all of the highest quality. This CD is a very welcome addition since it includes some rare petit motets which, despite being beautiful and touching, are performed very little.
Angelo Manzotti sings wonderfully, in a very sweet and natural style: his male soprano voice is never forced or strained in this recording (like sometimes it happens in some of his earlier opera recital CDs on labels such as Bongiovanni). The continuo is extremely well performed by Peter Lonnerberg (organ and harpsichord) and Nora Roll (gamba), always in tune and perfectly at ease with Manzotti's expressiveness.
Last but not least, this CD comes with a multimedia track which includes the scores in pdf format! I think this is a great idea and opportunity to take this "obscure" music out of the shadows and start performing it again (note: the scores features only the soprano and bass line, so the continuo harmony must be realized, but this shouldn't be a problem for anyone willing to perform these lovely pieces).
