André Rieu's faithful legion of fans will be pleased to hear this tribute to Viennese composer and waltz king Johann Strauss. Rieu performs this music with polish and a glee that's simply infectious, even if he's a tad inaccurate. But that's OK; as his numerous appearances on public television reveal, Rieu's best at capturing the lively spirit of the music--not its subtle details. The lively Vienna Blood sets this energetic waltz disc in motion; Josef Strauss's On Holiday keeps a furious pace; and--of course--we end with a dramatic and lush reading of The Blue Danube. The Johann Strauss Orchestra performs these works with a light touch that conveys the elegance of these works nicely, though seasoned classical ears may want more drama in their music. For them, we recommend hearing Nikolaus Harnoncourt's Johann Strauss in Berlin disc. The rest of us will be perfectly happy letting Rieu reveal the glories of the Viennese waltz. --Edward Garabedian

André Rieu proves again he is the "King of the waltz". This CD was made to celebrate the 100Th anniversary of the death of Johann Strauss II. When you listen the CD, it's like the orchestra is in your house. I hope Amazon.com will sell the VHS of 100 jahre Strauss and soon. This is a must for all André Rieu's fans.

Fun and playful, this music just washes over you. Strauss composed so many nice waltzes that his operas, so exquisitely angelic, are often overlooked. You'll find a few highlights here - "Draussen In Sievering Blu" being my favorite.

The rest is pure joy. I like to listen to this and dream myself away to some far off place. I like to imagine that I'm standing by the ocean, flowers blooming along the hillside. I can feel the wind and hear the birds .... singing.

For all who love the gentle sound this is the CD to purchase. All Andre's works are great - this is no exception. We were fortunate to see Andre and the orchestra live in Chicago last week. What a wonderful show. Had our 4 yr old grandson with who was mesmerized for the full 2 1/2 hours. What a talent to draw fans from 4 to 100. There were teens waltzing in the isles along with seniors and all ages in between. Thanks Andre, and thanks Amazon for making his works available. JGY
