At last a print vastly superior to other releases of this title! Beautiful picture, excellent sound! It's doubtful that most of you ever have attended a performance as thrilling as this one. Chénier was the role with which Del Monaco changed singing by introducing a technique taught by Arturo Melocchi, based on singing with the larynx kept low, at the bottom of the neck. It gave Del Monaco a powerful, brassy, thick, muscular, penetrating sound.

The is a beautiful recording. Corelli was and is probably the BEST Chenier you'll ever see or hear. A tall, handsome man with a magnificent voice. I have seen and heard many Chenier's but this is by far the best. Not to be slighted, Capucilli's Gerard and the rest of the cast do an outstanding job. Beautifully filmed.
