A Beautiful Work To Appreciate (And Respect),
By
This review is from: Andrea Echeverri (Audio CD)
When I saw the "A Eme O" video on MTV Español it was so moving to see a mother with her child on a bicycle singing so sweetly. There is something so pure and beautiful about this entire work. Far from some of the rehashed American pop sounds that sometimes appear in modern latin music, this is original with sensual and happy sounds and intelligent lyrics sometimes humorous sometimes con ganas a llorar, there are only a few artist that can do that to me. Being a man I must say ANYONE who has heart can be very moved by this album and it is easy for me to understand how this great artist could make Latinas Proud, and with good reason. Envié este CD a mi Novia, me encanta!

Beautiful Album,

This album is definitey not for everybody, especially if you are an Aterciopelados fan and expect to hear Aterciopelados songs. Artists do solo albums for a reason.
It is a beautiful expression of womanhood and motherhood, mixed with soft electronic, rock, and Colombian sounds. It is very pure, positive, sweet, and melodic.

Latin-alt Album of the Year!,

Andrea Echeverri's solo debut is definitely going to be the Latin alternative highlight of 2005. I love Aterciopelados, but Andrea's solo album stands out on its own right. This is a much better album than the latest discs by other Latina singer-songwriters such as Julieta Venegas and Ely Guerra. It shows a real musical maturity on Andrea's part, but is still catchy and infectious. I'm so glad KCRW is playing this album!

A true artist that sings from the soul...,
By Rebel Prince "007" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

Unlike the pop quality of Julieta Venegas Si, this album is not like any of her previous albums with Aterciopelados, in that it contains whimsical electronic yet folk-style musical arrangements and isn't saturated with pop-like sounds as in Julieta Venegas Si. Andrea reflects maturity and passion in her lyrics and conveys a much deeper and intimate portrayal of herself as a woman in love with life, her partner, and mainly her new born child. She almost reveals her deepest secrets and is allowing the listener to experience the joy she feels about being in love. Although, it is an album that may cater more for a female listener, as a male, I have to appreciate her voice, her talent, and her artistic proposal, which allows me to enjoy the album and be moved by it.

This is the ULTIMATE Latin female album,

I had heard a lot about this album and when I got it, I was happy to find that the songs moved me in a way that I cant describe. It made me feel lucky and proud to be a Latina. Andrea's lyrics really hit home and struck a nerve. I look forward to hearing it again and again and also hearing the next Aterciopelados album.
I cant believe what the guy below wrote. It seemed so mean spirited.- had to be a guy (!). I normally dont write in and leave reviews but his comments got me boliing. Buy this album - support proud great music - music that just happens to be made by a Latina. Pa'lante mija !

A motherhood album:That's unusual... and great!,
By Jorge Florez (Medellin-Colombia) - See all my reviews

On half of this album there's mention of babies, fetuses and embryos, all layered with love and so much more love!!!
When you examine the music world, women all tend to sing about couple-oriented kinds of love or heartbreak, not mother-like love; that makes this album stand out lyrically: absolutely uncommon that a woman sheds all her conventional sexiness and passionately sings about giving new life. Caution: this album is not for everyone, a girl friend of mine hates this album, of course she, my friend, is stuck with top 40 and Mtv sounds; so I would say Andrea's opus clicks better with people whose musical taste goes beyond those selling-oriented niches. Amniótico, Amortiguador and A-Eme-O are all memorable. Andrea herself has an aura, she seems genuinely humble, and always manages to grab people's attention when she speaks, that's better perceived when you see her performing live,if you haven't, jump at the chance whenever she visits your town. Fantastic album girl! Keep the good songs coming!

Tremendous!,

I had never listened to Aterciopelados before, and I don't speak Spanish fluently. Neither of these points was an obstacle to my enjoying this great CD.
I love all the songs. While there are electronic touches, the overall feel is acoustic and natural with a definite "Latin" flavor. Her singing is very heartfelt. Best of all, the CD is free of the sonic "sheen" that seems to dull most recordings these days. There's a crispness and clarity to the sound and singing that is like a breath of fresh air. If I had to find a fault, it would be the hidden track. It's a lame remix of "A Eme O" that doesn't fit with the feel of the rest of the tracks. More and more over the last few years, I've found myself looking to musicians outside the US and on independent labels to deliver the quality music I need. Everything on US major labels is either Britney-esque or sounds (and smells) like "My Humps." If you relate and need an escape, then I strongly recommend this CD!

THIS IS AN AMAZING ALBUM, WITH BEAUTIFUL SONGS ABOUT HOW SHE FELT WHILE PREGNANT, POSITIVE MESSAGES AND JUST GREAT TO LISTEN TO. Los que se quejan son unos cuadrados, este album esta increible, con sus canciones de cuna y de cama, Andrea nos ensenha una vez mas la importancia de enviar las mejores vibraciones al futuro de nuestra sociedad, desde que estan en nuestros vientres.
GREAT ALBUM, CAN'T WAIT FOR HER NEXT ONE!

After listening to this cd a few times its fair to say that its a good album. Yes its different from Aterciopelados but isnt that the point? Thats why she did this solo to try out different things and make a completely different album than what she didwith Aterciopelados. Mostly all the songs are very calm and soothing.. I liked it and I definitly think you will too =)

I've always liked Aterciopelados lyrics, but this piece from Andrea has its original turn because she's fully experimenting all stages of her pregnancy...it's a beautiful album, specially for all of us women that want to shout to the world that carrying a life inside of us is one of the most wonderful things in life, if not the most. Highly recommend!
