If you love to cook and want to pair wines with your creations, or even if you want to know what to order when you go out, this is a great guide. I've bought it 3 yrs in a row now and also given it as gifts. It's very accessible and covers wines from the budget up to the once a year special occasion bottles. It also pairs everyday foods and meals, and the more gourmet stuff. You can tell Andrea is chef, sommelier and also a down to earth, realistic woman.
I had previously bought Andrea's Wine Buying Guide and the two editions are great references when deciding what wine or type of wine might be best for a specific dinner or get-together. Since it is not possible to list all the available wines, I also use other wine references like BEVMO to compare the recommendations or when Andrea's book does not list the wine(s) I am considering. I reside in California in a wine growing region and my choices are many and her Buying Guide is an excellent reference and buy. Highly recommended.
I love Andrea Robinson. I've learned a lot about wine from her books, articles, web site and DVD's. That said, I loved the 2008, 2009 and 2010 format. She changed it for 2011 and I didn't like it nearly as much. I hope she goes back to the format she used previously in her next edition.
This is a very handy little book that you can take with you when shopping for wine. The format is excellent in that it divides by type of wine and price points too. One suggestion for future - snapshot of the wine labels of the bottles mentioned - even if it is put in the back of the book and somewhat small.
