This review is from: The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo (Audio CD)
I had the good fortune to hear these guys at a small Chicago club a couple years ago. It was an extraordinary show and I set out to get some of their recordings. The available recordings of the Andreas Kapsalis Trio and Goran's group are very good and I listen to them regularly, but neither was what I was looking for that I had experienced in the live duet show. Then I discovered this recording. This is what I was looking for. This is a terrific recording for musicians and non-musicians alike. Each track is a fascinating and enthusiastic weave of many musical influences ranging from jazz classics ala Brubeck and McLaughlin to the more folk-oriented elements of the Balkans and Greece, and lots in between. The musicianship is stellar and the interplay between the two guitarists is as fresh as their live shows. This recording can be listened to in much the same way one might read a good book. The rhythms, melodies and textures are compelling enough to hold one's attention throughout the entire recording. The sound production is excellent as well. Ok, you probably figured out by now that I like this recording a lot. Yes, this is a significant duet. Buy this CD. You won't regret it.
