I read this book when it first came out in the '70's not knowing that it was highly personalized and exaggerated. Duarte's book on Segovia sets the record straight, rationally explaining what we now deem un-PC about the book. Segovia reminisces a romanticised Spain in which he plays the center role. The reader may vicariously enjoy this or toss the book aside as garbage. A must for nostalgics, history buffs(with a grain of salt) and Hispanophiles. At the least, the book reveals the mind of an erudite, cultured, and gifted personality.

What I liked most about this book was Segovia's own personal voice showing through. It is, indeed, a very subjective self-portrait that romanticizes just about everything, but that's what I like about Segovia and the music he played! The book is about his life viewed through his own eyes and I appreciated the intimacy opened up to me. There are other works out there about Segovia that are more erudite, accurate, and objective but there's a real pleasure in reading this one.

The dust jacket was in a pretty bad shape, but other than that the book itself is almost like new! Thank you!
