5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, October 5, 2001
By SM3 (Arkansas, USA) - See all my reviews
I adore this cd. Even if you aren't familiar with the artists, this cd is the best. If you are familiar with the original versions of the songs, these remakes will crack you up. If you aren't familiar with the original versions, some of them will STILL crack you up. You can't beat Australians and Kiwis when it comes to fun or talent. Neil Finn's version of "Billie Jean" is amazing. Tonic's version of "SOS" is beautiful. And the Wiggles' version of "Its a Long Way to the Top" is simply brilliant!! Buy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Aussie Artists/Covers, November 2, 2007
If you are a lover of covers, this album is for you. Nobody else could do a cover of AC/DC's 'It's a long way to the top' like Aussie kid's band The Wiggles. The Screaming Jets do a rocking version of 'my heart will go on' (the only decent version there is) Hear a Russian choir do 'Downunder' and Rolf Harris add his own personal note to 'I Touch Myself' An absolute corker of an album - extremely rare & hard to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just comedy value, July 15, 2001
By Deano (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
In case you do not hail from the land Down Under, or are not familiar with Andrew Denton, he is a comedian that hosts a breakfast radio show. Denton came up with this brilliant idea to "challenge" musical acts to perform a cover of a song that is outside of their normal musical genre. And that is how this album has evolved.

At first listen, this is funny. I mean, where else would you hear legendary Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes belt out an Abba number, or the Delltones "do wop" the Sex Pistols, or premier Aussie country singers like John Williamson tackle The Offspring?

However, once you recover from the shock, you realise how talented these artists are, and how good these unusual versions actually sound.

Personal favourites of mine are Neil Finn's fantastic version of Jackson's Billie Jean, The Screaming Jets rocking out Dion's My Heart Will Go On (and Dave Gleeson's proclaimation that he is King of the World at the end), and Alex Lloyd slowing down the Cold Chisel classic, You Got Nothing I Want. Add to this Troy Cassar-Daley turning Silverchair's Freak into a country number as if it was always meant to be a country song, and The Wiggles turning an AC/DC anthem into a Kiddie song, and you have a sensational album.

If you are not familiar with the artists on this album, or the original versions of the songs, then you probably will not understand it. But if you are, I would highly recommend this album. It is hilarious, but it also sounds really good.
