This little box is great. Bought it to use with XBMC over UPnP, works perfectly for my needs.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF...
To anyone wanting this for XBMC, you must use XBMC for ARM Android. At the time of my writing this, XBMC v13 is in beta 3, v12 is the stable release but IT DOES NOT SUPPORT HARDWARE ACCELERATED DECODING! v12 uses software decoding on almost all Android devices, which means either you need a fast CPU or v13.
That is why some reviewers are saying HD video playback is choppy, they downloaded the stable release which has no hardware acceleration.

Also, according to root checker basic, this device does NOT have proper root access.

The unit....
First impressions were "Damn that's small!" and "Huh, wonder if Velcro can hold it?" (It can btw). As soon as you plug the K-R42 into the power and a display, you'll see the android boot logo followed by the first time set up. Connect to your WiFi network or plug in your Ethernet cable when it asks you to on screen. Follow the directions until the end and you'll be greeted with the home screen. A strange green wallpaper and the analog clock widget is all that will be there at first, but that's normal.

Along the bottom of the screen is the Android navigation bar with the return, home, recent buttons. Four other buttons also inhabit the navigation bar, power, volume up and down, and a button to hide the bar altogether (a must have since it doesn't auto hide in XBMC).

Ive bought every box on the market that I could get my hands on. This box is good for Android but not for xbmc and anybody buying a box like this is probably wanting it for xbmc. I bought this box because of another reviewer mentioned "move over g-box" and this review had me really convinced and excited that it was better. There are some pros about this box such as the speed of android is a little faster on this box than the g-box but when it comes to what is extremely important: stability, video playback and xbmc : the g-box eats it alive. These features are what make the g-box a g-box and although this little box is fast for android it still doesnt compare. Apparently the reviewer didn't use the g-box for these reasons.

The deal breaker this box and almost every box that I have purchased in the past is future upgrades. For this box and all others except pivos and g-box there seems to be no support. This means you can forget about future updated firmware that may resolve the bugs in the software. There's no brand to back this product. Its made in China and there is no development team or anything that I can find that gives a crap if this box ever gets better. Based on my prior experience with these types of products it will have a very short lifespan due to lack of future development. This is a really big problem because apps get updated and android gets updated and xbmc gets updated but if the software doesnt work on the box it simply wont work and that's the end of it.

That being said ill be comparing this box to the mx2 since it is my favorite box to date and the only company so far that I can find that is still working to make it better. First the price: both the mx2 and this box are price similarly. The mx2 being a couple dollars cheaper.

During the summer I was getting frequent problems like messages "android core failed". When the device is cold I don't see these issues. Otherwise when it is cold the device is lots of fun playing android games on a big TV. Hopefully a higher quality device will be available soon.

A great unit, and a pretty good implementation.

A few minor issues...
1) Rooted from the factory... this means some apps just won't work, like DirecTV and certain other streaming and/or banking apps.
2) Remote is functional, but could stand a little improvement
3) Unit only comes with 2G/4G memory, not 2G/8G as advertised.
4) Crashes occasionally, perhaps from overheating. But I've also played back video nonstop for over 24 hours, and used it hard for a few days. So this is exceedingly minor.

What I love...
1) HDMI (mini) out, full 1080p capable (usually smooth, tho 780p may play some video a little more smoothly)
2) Dual USB inputs, MicroSD memory slot
3) Android capability on TV
4) Qwerty remote with Android buttons and gyro-based pointing was a cheap add-on.

Perfect device. Straight out of the box to connected, on, and configured in less than 15 minutes. That even included a perusal of the instructions for any gotchas while installing the device. I connected this to a Samsung 60" HDTV and it performs flawlessly. I used this to replace a full blown PC that I had connected to the TV and it works great. And talk about a small footprint, it's no bigger than the antenna for my previously used wireless NIC antennas with base. I have an 18Mb internet connection and did not have a single moment of buffering the whole time I was using the device. HIGHLY recommend this to anyone wanting to have tablet capabilities for you TV. Am planning on buying one for every TV in the house. I am ecstatic about this thing.
