If you are looking for a hard sci-fi story, you will be disappointed in this book.

However, if you are looking for a fun, satisfying sci-fi story, you will enjoy this book. It's sort of like the old "Space Operas" from the '50s. The story is simple, yet has some interesting twists. Just when you think you know how things are going to go, it changes.

This book does what a good sci-fi should: take some themes from our modern life that will be familiar to readers, extend them into the future, and then asks, "What if..." The author's military, and subsequent technology training, show through in the book - but not to excess. There is just the right amount of detail without being tedious. It adds to the believability and helps draw the reader into the story. I won't give away the plot, but I will say that I enjoyed the characters, and I hope that we will see them again in another book. This is definitely a fun read.


In the interest of full disclosure, I have known Dan most of my life. We played chess together as kids, and then went our own ways as adults. I have not seen Dan in person since High School, but we keep in contact on teh Interwebs where he occasionally lures me to my doom in a game of chess. Dan did not request this review, or edit it in any way.

Seriously, you will not be disappointed when you purchase this book. It takes you on a journey that you will want to last forever. Well written, imaginative, and spot on funny! The author has a great sense of humor mixed with a dramatic vision of the human condition. If you are looking for something new...something maybe your book club friends have never heard of, jump on the magnetic drive system embedded in this soon to be classic novel.
